ALIEN ANT FARM
INVITED TO PERFORM DURING MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS PRE-SHOW
CONFIRMED FOR ‘THE TONIGHT SHOW’ ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17;
HEADLINING TOUR BEGINS IN EARLY OCTOBER
There’s a lot of excitement in the coming weeks for ALIEN ANT FARM as their major label debut ANThology (New Noize/DreamWorks Records) speeds closer to the million-selling plateau–landing at #11 this week and selling over 82,000 copies.
Following the September 2 completion of their two-week European tour–including a performance at England’s famed Reading Festival–the band returns to the States for a series of radio shows highlighted by a September 6 performance on the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show telecast in New York. Shortly thereafter, ALIEN ANT FARM are slated to perform “Smooth Criminal” Monday, September 17 on The Tonight Show.
The group’s modern rock interpretation of the Michael Jackson classic remains at #1 on Billboard’s Modern Rock chart (for the third consecutive week) and the Marc Klasfeld-directed video continues its reign as one of the Top 10 most requested videos on MTV’s “Total Request Live.”
Described by the Los Angeles Times (March 11, 2001) as “dynamic and daring,” ALIEN ANT FARM‘s funk-rock revamp of “Smooth Criminal” has been noted by critics as a standout track on ANThology. Entertainment Weekly (3/30/01) comments: “As Michael Jackson prepares new material, Ant Farm reaps the fruits of his labor, adding crunching guitars to the original’s rollicking bass line and an aggro sneer to its chorus of woos.” New York’s Good Times (3/20/01) recently wrote: “[AAF’s] cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’ is a solid example of the band’s musical range as well as their unique creative ability.” While the band’s rendition of “Smooth Criminal” appears in the film “American Pie 2,” an original ALIEN ANT FARM song “Good (For A Woman),”appears on the soundtrack CD.
Look for ALIEN ANT FARM—DRYDEN MITCHELL (vocals), TERRY CORSO (guitar), TYE ZAMORA (bass) and MIKE COSGROVE (drums)–to launch their own headlining tour in October, with DreamWorks Records labelmates Pressure 4-5 in the opening slot (dates will be announced soon).
