ALIEN ANT FARM TO DELIVER ANThology MARCH 6, 2001;
NEW NOIZE/DREAMWORKS SET PRODUCED BY JAY BAUMGARDNER
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10, 2001 – “If I had to describe our music, I’d say we’ve got an original sound for a rock band,” remarks Alien Ant Farm singer Dryden Mitchell. “We appeal to human emotion, but the driving beat will never take a back seat.”
Mitchell shares his passion for expressive, guitar-driven rock with Alien Ant Farm guitarist Terry Corso, bassist Tye Zamora and drummer Mike Cosgrove. The quartet will unveil ANThology, their major-label debut, March 6, 2001, through a joint arrangement with Papa Roach’s New Noize label and DreamWorks Records.
Helping shape the disc is producer Jay Baumgardner (Papa Roach, Orgy, Slipknot, Coal Chamber). Says Corso: “The great thing about Jay was that he came in and told us to just do what we do best.”
According to Alien Ant Farm’s many fans, what they do best is fuse reflective lyrics with uncompromising music. “Our songs are very dynamic in texture,” Cosgrove informs. “The music can be kind of dense and technical at times, but the lyrics bring it back to where the song is something everyone can relate to.”
That connection sees its fullest manifestation onstage and, in fact, the band has developed a reputation for powerful, unabashed live shows. “We’re not too conscious about what we look like on stage,” Zamora admits. “All we care about is giving entertaining, happening performances where we interact with the crowd and show our love for our fans.”
In March 2001 the foursome will embark on a nationwide tour with Papa Roach. The two bands shared stages during Alien Ant Farm’s early days and eventually formed a close friendship. Corso explains: “We always had enormous respect for each other because we were trying to achieve the same thing. We were always into good music first, over anything else.”
By 1996 Alien Ant Farm’s hard-hitting rhythms and manic stage presence had propelled them to the forefront of Southern California’s thriving underground music culture. They gained further momentum by touring vigorously throughout the western U.S. and Europe, where they played for huge festival crowds. In 1999 the band released Greatest Hits, which went on to win the L.A. Music Award for Best Independent Rock Album.
The members of Alien Ant Farm don’t want to give away too much about ANThology, but they will say their major goal with the record is to strike both a personal and musical chord with listeners. Concludes Zamora of the disc: “Expect something relevant. Expect something different.”
