BLAST OFF FIRST TWO NIGHTS AT NYC’S BEACON THEATRE
WITH GUESTS INCLUDING LEVON HELM, TAJ MAJAL, JOHNNY WINTER
AND LOS LOBOS’ DAVID HILDAGO AND CESAR ROSAS
ALL SHOWS WEBCAST LIVE ON MOOGIS.COM
To mark the group’s 40th Anniversary–and their return to the Beacon after missing last year’s run due to founding member GREGG ALLMAN’s treatment for Hepatitis C–the band is prepared to celebrate each night of their 15-show run.
Opening night, the band–ALLMAN (vocals and keyboards), BUTCH TRUCKS (drums and tympani), JAIMOE (drums), WARREN HAYNES (vocals, lead and slide guitar), DEREK TRUCKS (slide and lead guitar), OTEIL BURBRIDGE (bass) and MARC QUINONES (congas and percussion)–was joined by blues legend Taj Majal and The Band’s Levon Helm. The show opened with Warren and Derek playing “Little Martha,” a song written by late founding member Duane Allman, whose memory this year’s Beacon Theatre run is being dedicated to.
Jim Farber of the New York Daily News said, “The group's peak…came in ‘Mountain Jam,’ which elaborates the Donovan song into an oceanic swell and swoon. As usual, the piece presented The Allmans at both their most abstract and their most forceful. It's a piece rooted in key parts of rock and blues history, yet, in its evolving form, leaves them open to the future.”
For the second show ABB was joined by rock guitarist Johnny Winter as well as David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos. Look for many of the band’s musician friends to be on hand for the upcoming shows to help celebrate ABB’s last 40 years.
The first two nights of this historic run were sold out. For information on tickets for other shows, visit www.allmanbrothersband.com.
Fans that aren’t able to attend the Beacon Theatre shows–or that want to re-live the experience later–can see all of the concerts via webcast and access exclusive ABB content dating back to 2000 through a subscription on www.moogis.com. MOOGIS.COM is the brainchild of BUTCH TRUCKS, who has been working on the site for the past five years.
