25TH ANNIVERSARY ART EXHIBITION
OPENED THIS PAST WEEKEND
AT MERRY KARNOWSKY GALLERY IN LOS ANGELES

This weekend, ALTERNATIVE PRESS–the Cleveland-based national youth culture magazine–celebrated its 25th anniversary with the opening of a group art exhibition at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles.
The gallery display–a visual testament to the extraordinary presence and influence of the magazine–features AP’s vast archives as well as original works of art from iconic musicians and renowned visual artists. The exhibit is comprised of paintings, drawings, photography and sculpture.
Turning out to celebrate Friday, July 9 were TIM ARMSTRONG (Rancid), MARC “PORTER” MCKNIGHT (Atreyu), LIZ MCGRATH & MORGAN SLADE (Miss Derringer), SHEPARD FAIREY, and CARLA AZAR (Autolux), among others, such as STACEY JONES (American Hi-Fi) and photographers MARINA CHAVEZ, LISA JOHNSON, RALF STRATHMANN, MYRIAM SANTOS, SEAN MURPHY and KEVIN KNIGHT as well as visual artists TODD SCHORR, KATHY STAICO SCHORR, ROBERT WILLIAMS, SUZANNE WILLIAMS, JOHNNY RODRIGUEZ (KMNDZ), EDWARD WALTON WILCOX, MARK WHALEN (Kill Pixie), GREG “CRAOLA” SIMKINS, MERCEDES HELNWEIN and VICTOR CASTILLO.
The exhibit–open through July 24–also showcases original work by artists and musicians, including: MARILYN MANSON, GERARD WAY (My Chemical Romance), SHIRLEY MANSON (Garbage), TIM ARMSTRONG (Rancid), CAMILLE ROSE GARCIA (The Real Minks), ADAM JONES (Tool), MATT SKIBA (Alkaline Trio), PETE WENTZ (Fall Out Boy), DEREK HESS, TARA MCPHERSON, JOHN BALDWIN GOURLEY (Portugal. The Man) with AUSTIN SELLERS, MATT "PORTLAND" HAY (Nora), TRAVIE MCCOY(Gym Class Heroes), COLIN FRANGICETTO (Circa Survive), SHAWN HARRIS (Maniac), ANTHONY GREEN (Circa Survive), ANDY "THE BUTCHER" MROTEK (The Academy Is…), JORDAN BUCKLEY (Every Time I Die) and more.
Next up for the iconic magazine’s 25th anniversary celebration is a series of free fan appreciation parties occurring in select cities throughout the U.S. during the remainder of the year, as well as an art exhibition in NYC in October. In addition, AP recently unveiled its brand new web site to take them through the next 25 years.
