AS DISTURBED TOUR EUROPE WITH MARILYN MANSON,
“VOICES” BECOMES SECOND HIT IN THE U.S.;
BAND CONTRIBUTE A TRACK TO UPCOMING FAITH NO MORE
TRIBUTE ALBUM
DISTURBED are on an overseas mission, engaged in spreading THE SICKNESS on their second trip through Europe, this time as the main support for Marilyn Manson. The trek, which began January 21 in England and finishes February 21 in Finland, finds the platinum modern hard rockers playing to new audiences.
The last time DISTURBED–vocalist DAVID DRAIMAN, guitarist DAN DONEGAN, drummer/programmer MIKE WENGREN and bassist FUZZ–played Europe, they successfully headlined a handful of intimate shows. This time around, they are meeting the challenge of performing in large venues to die-hard Manson fans, many of whom haven’t been exposed to them, yet. DRAIMAN, checking in from Germany, admits: “When we start, it’s a little difficult getting a reaction from Manson’s crowd who try to chant his name over our music, but by the end of the show, we end up winning them over. DRAIMAN adds: “We’re going to continue to go out there, do what we do and win people over just like we did in the beginning in the U.S. We’re a baby band over here. No one knows who we are so we’re having to break new ground.”
Meanwhile, DISTURBED have another hit on their hands with the second single from their platinum Giant Records debut THE SICKNESS. “Voices” is currently making its way through The Top 20 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Track chart, while the Gregory Dark-directed video has been added into rotation on MTV. In the band’s “Modern Age” profile in a recent issue of Billboard, DRAIMAN said “Voices” is about “fighting against that evil inclination inside you who tells you to do things that you should not do, but you end up doing anyway, whether it’s a battle with an addiction or a battle with a lifestyle or a value judgement. You always have the good and the bad side of your inner self.”
DISTURBED are also reaching new fans through their presence on the soundtrack for the thriller Valentine. The band’s “God Of The Mind” (exclusive to the soundtrack album) appears alongside tracks from Rob Zombie, Deftones, and Marilyn Manson. In other compilation news, the band have recorded a song for the upcoming Faith No More tribute album. Says DRAIMAN: “We’ve been Faith No More fans for a while and I think it’s a tremendous honor to be making a contribution to this tribute album.” He notes their Johnny K-produced cover of “Midlife Crisis” “stayed true to the original, but we definitely did it the DISTURBED way. It’s much more aggressive.”
Stay tuned for more touring news about DISTURBED, who are planning headlining U.S. shows as well as their return to Ozzfest this summer.
