AVENGED SEVENFOLD
LAUNCH ‘WAKING THE FALLEN’ ALBUM
ON HOPELESS RECORDS;
BAND CONFIRMED FOR ‘TAKE ACTION TOUR 2003’ THIS FALL
AVENGED SEVENFOLD–a band who’ve thrown away the rulebook via their boundary-blurring mix of punk and metal–just released their second album WAKING THE FALLEN on August 26. This fall, AVENGED SEVENFOLD will join the Take Action Tour 2003 September 17 in Old Bridge, NJ and continue through October 9 in San Francisco. The band–M. SHADOWS (vocals), ZACKY VENGEANCE (guitar), SYNYSTER GATES (guitar), THE REVEREND (drums) and JOHNNY CHRIST (bass)–are coming off inspired performances on this year’s Vans Warped Tour and a club trek with Rise Against and Shai Hulud.
WAKING THE FALLEN–the follow-up to their 2001 release Sounding The Seventh Trumpet–is released on Hopeless Records which launched Thrice’s hit The Illusion Of Safety via their Sub City label. Marking their first album with producer Mudrock (Godsmack), WAKING THE FALLEN is punk rock with melody, metal’s white-knuckle intensity and powerful wails combined with unflinching lyrics and an adventurous and epic spirit that make the band stand truly alone.The album has taken the band in a progressive new direction incorporating their diverse influences ranging from Bad Religion to Metallica and Iron Maiden to NOFX.
An amalgam of the band’s metal, punk and gothic influences, WAKING THE FALLEN is filled with startling rhythmic shifts, unpredictable melodic flights with vocal swirls, and often all this within one song. Frontman M. SHADOWS says, “At first, we were nervous about working with a producer because we didn’t want our song structures changed. We didn’t want to be formatted into three-minute, verse-chorus-verse songs. We told Mudrock that we wanted it to sound epic, with big harmonies, clean-sounding vocals like Iron Maiden’s and then go into heavy stuff like Pantera. We wanted to use all those influences and still make it work.”
AVENGED SEVENFOLD’s ferocious live show and their unconventional sound has drawn recent praise from the press. Guitar World (March 2003) said the band “completely blur the line between metal and punk…” and AVENGED SEVENFOLD would be equally “as comfortable on the Ozzfest stage as it is playing punk rock dives.” In addition, Charles Cross of Rolling Stone anointed AVENGED SEVENFOLD the Vans Warped Tour 2003 “Second stage must-see,” and “…a Goth-metal band with a singer who looks like Elvis and sounds like Axl Rose” (August 7, 2003).
Stay tuned for more concert news from the band that is featured on Madden 2004, NHL 2004 and NASCAR 2004 in an unprecedented cross-promotion arrangement with Electronic Arts that includes among other things the inclusion of the band’s music on all three video games. In addition, the band performed on this year’s Vans Warped Tour and with such artists as Mushroomhead, From Autumn to Ashes, Death By Stereo, Sick Of It All, Shai Hulud, Shadows Fall, God Forbid, High On Fire, Tsunami Bomb, Atreyu and Rise Against. On this year’s Take Action Tour 2003, they’ll be playing with Poison The Well, Dillinger Escape Plan, Further Seems Forever, Eighteen Visions, This Day Forward and Throwdown.
