BIG HEAD TODD & THE MONSTERS
MAP OUT SUMMER TOUR PLANS:
GROUP CELEBRATING 20 YEARS AS A BAND BY
HEADLINING THEIR OWN SHOWS
PLUS DATES WITH TOAD THE WET SPROCKET
“Art should be free. Technology has been and will continue to be good for music and culture.”
BIG HEAD TODD & THE MONSTERS are celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band as they have every summer for the last 20 years by heading out on an extensive summer tour. This year, they’re touring both as a headliner and on a special co-headlining bill with Toad The Wet Sprocket. The tour will begin this weekend with a sold-out show at the majestic 9000-capacity Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, which their annual performance has become a Colorado summer tradition. They’ll then perform a week of shows on their own before kicking off the “Todd & Toad” tour July 7 in Portsmouth, VA, which concludes August 23 in San Diego. The platinum-selling band–singer/guitarist TODD PARK MOHR, drummer BRIAN NEVIN and bassist ROB SQUIRES–have been together non-stop since they formed at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1986.
In other BIG HEAD TODD news, the group continues to champion the free distribution of music by giving away new and live material via their own “Bigheadtodd-casts,” whereby fans can download new music free from www.bigheadtodd.com or iTunes without having to wait for a conventional album release. Recent postings include new studio tracks like “Cashbox” and “Hangover,” plus live versions of “Love Transmission” (from their last studio album, 2004’s Crimes of Passion) and BHTM’s romp through John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom.” Their version of “Boom Boom” was also recently featured in Nissan and Olympus commercials, as well as several feature films like “Greatest Game Ever Played” and “Glory Road.” Discussing the intersection between music, technology and making it available to the masses, TODD PARK MOHR recently told the Denver Post, “Technology has been and will continue to be good for music and culture. It's leveling the playing field, allowing for more independent artists to express themselves, and de-monetizing our culture by making access to cultural products free.”
BIG HEAD TODD AND THE MONSTERS are one of those very special bands that defy genres and categories…a rock-n-roll band in the broadest sense–folk, blues, country, rhythm and blues, soul, contemporary, indie, alternative and everything in between. In a review of Crimes of Passion–recorded in TODD’s solar-powered studio–The London Times described the band as “scandalously overlooked” and “as classy as American rock gets” (3/26/04).
