BITTER:SWEET PREPARE FOR MARCH 7 RELEASE OF ‘THE MATING GAME’
WITH VIDEO FOR THE TITLE TRACK AND
REMIXES BY KRAAK & SMAAK AND BLACKJOY
Los Angeles-based electronic pop band BITTER:SWEET–featuring Shana Halligan (vocals, songwriter) and Kiran Shahani (producer, composer, bassist, programming)–have been busy gearing up for the release of THE MATING GAME, their March 7 debut album for Quango Music Group (the same label that has released albums by Zero 7 and Kruder & Dorfmeister in the U.S.). In preparation for the first single, the title track “The Mating Game,” the duo just completed a video with newcomer Nathan Cabrera and enlisted emerging remixers Blackjoy and Kraak & Smaak to rework their original production for radio formats.
“The Mating Game” single package, going for adds at Top 200, AAA and RPM radio formats this week (January 23 and 24), is based on solid production and a Vegas-cool big-band sass and zany James Bond feel. In addition to the album version, it contains two remixes from internationally acclaimed producers. Straight out of Paris, France, Yellow Productions’ Blackjoy (La Stache, Moustache) delivers a swanky disco remix of “The Mating Game” while the Netherlands-based trio of Kraak and Smaak pulled out the big guns on a special gob-smacking dance floor rendition they’ve entitled “The Hunting Game” remix.
The video for “The Mating Game” was completed in Los Angeles this week. It is the directorial debut by Nathan Cabrera, a local sculptor and animator whose past credits include works for Suicide Girls, Fox Kids, The Jim Henson Company and Disney, as well as for a variety of underground art galleries throughout Los Angeles. His experience with animation and film mediums were the ideal choice to highlight BITTER:SWEET. Both Shana and Kiran are featured in the video, which is intercut with Cabrera’s original animation.
Throughout THE MATING GAME, BITTER:SWEET stay true to their own unique musical souls by embracing everything from the previously untapped jazz qualities of Shana’s voice to Kiran’s love of any type of music and production that “makes your body move.” Shana, already an accomplished musician, had grown up with music in her blood (her father is eight-time Grammy Award-winning composer Dick Halligan of Blood, Sweat & Tears) and she had started her singing career at age seven by performing in films and television commercials. Kiran Shahani was a founding member of the Supreme Beings of Leisure and was largely responsible for their self-titled debut album (the one that broke the electronic/trip-hop group by selling more than 250,000 copies worldwide).
