BLEED THE DREAM
SET TO RELEASE DEBUT EP ‘AWAKE’
MARCH 30 ON NOIZE POLLUTION RECORDS;
BAND IN THE MIDST OF U.S. TOUR WITH PENNYWISE
AND CONFIRM VANS WARPED TOUR TREK THIS SUMMER
Southern California’s BLEED THE DREAM—generating a buzz for their punk/metal amalgam–will release their debut six-song EP AWAKE March 30 on Los Angeles indie label Noize Pollution Records. The band just launched a six-week tour with Pennywise January 21 and will do a stint with Yellowcard in February, the same month their song “Villain” will debut at college radio. BLEED THE DREAM will also perform on the Vans Warped Tour 2004 this summer.
Produced by Cameron Webb (The Aquabats, Fairview, Color Red) and BLEED THE DREAM–DAVE AGUILERA (guitars), KEITH THOMPSON (bass), SCOTT GOTTLIEB (drums) and BRANDON THOMAS (vocals)–AWAKE is rife with powerful rhythmic shifts and bracing melodies. The EP incorporates the band’s diverse influences that range from Faith No More to Jeff Buckley and Bad Brains to Fugazi, resulting in an eclectic cohesion. THOMPSON states, “Each song actually belongs to a different genre–our goal was to make each song sound different by not following the same criteria.” AWAKE alternates between aggression and passivity: the opening track “Villain” is a sonic boom of angular punk, while “Be There,” with its soaring hooks, walks the line between melody and mayhem.
AWAKE is garnering early critical praise, with Jeff Inman of Las Vegas City Life (December 12, 2003) noting: “BLEED THE DREAM comes off as more than another emo clan. Part of the credit goes to frontman THOMAS, who not only seems to be able to find a soaring hook in sheer chaos, but gives the band mystery in an open-diary world. The rest goes to guitarist AGUILERA, blending hardcore mathematics, distorted dissonance…he can turn an ordinary track like ‘Sarcastic Farewell’ into a schizophrenic fit or turn ‘Pop Song’ into a spasm of violence and tension.”
In less than a year, BLEED THE DREAM booked their own national tour, jumped on the Vans Warped Tour ’03 and co-produced their AWAKE EP. With tours already set throughout spring and summer, 2004 is in full-swing for BLEED THE DREAM.
