BRAIN FAILURE
INVADE THE U.S. WITH ‘AMERICAN DREAMER,’
DUE APRIL 26 ON THORP RECORDS,
AND U.S. TOUR WITH THE UNSEEN
Hailing from Beijing, China, BRAIN FAILURE–who mix catchy choruses and bracing punk riffage –will release their second album AMERICAN DREAMER April 26 on Thorp Records. The group–who sing in both English and Mandarin–are previewing songs during their nationwide U.S. tour with The Unseen which began February 15. The 29-city trek will culminate with the group supporting Boston punkers the Dropkick Murphys March 20 in Boston at the Avalon, March 23 in Allston, MA and March 26 at Irving Plaza in New York.
BRAIN FAILURE–XIAO RONG (vocals, guitars), WANG JIAN (guitars), SHI XUDONG (bass) and XU LIN (drums)–were the first musicians in the People’s Republic of China to sport mohawks and belt out dissonance over power chords in the late 1990’s. For the new album, BRAIN FAILURE enlisted Dropkick Murphys’ bassist Ken Casey to record AMERICAN DREAMER at Boston’s Outpost studio (Dropkick Murphys, Give Up The Ghost). As a result, AMERICAN DREAMER is teeming with 16 fine-tuned punk-rock anthems that underline the band’s impeccable musicianship. In addition, both Ken Casey and Dropkick Murphys drummer Matt Kelly supply additional guest vocals during the choruses throughout the album.
The album showcases the band’s old-school punk influences and inspiration, ranging from seminal groups such as The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers to contemporaries like Rancid. AMERICAN DREAMER also features guest vocals by Mark Civitarese of The Unseen on “Played.” Recently, “That’s What I Know” (AMERICAN DREAMER’s opening track) was included on the popular Give ‘Em The Boot Volume 4 (Epitaph Records) punk compilation alongside Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, The Unseen and many more.
