SINGER/SONGWRITER ANNOUNCES FIRST-EVER NATIONAL TOUR IN SUPPORT OF ACCLAIMED DEBUT ALBUM
‘HIGH HOPES & HEARTBREAK’
BROOKE WILL TEAM-UP WITH FELLOW ‘AMERICAN IDOL’ ALUM
MICHAEL JOHNS FOR A CO-HEADLINING RUN
SEPTEMBER 17 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30
“I don’t have any barriers,” explains BROOKE of the songwriting process on her first full-length since she was a Top 5 finalist on “American Idol” in 2008. “It’s important I remain unguarded, open and vulnerable as an artist; it’s the only way I know how to be.” BROOKE’s diversity as an artist was cited in a Houston Chronicle album review which noted: “Shades of Carly Simon, the Carpenters and Carole King… She's consistently lovely–the alt-country vibe of ‘Little Bird,’ the heartbreaking ‘Smile,’ and the surprising disco-swirl of the title track” (Joey Guerra, 7/24/09).
BROOKE teamed with Randy Jackson who executive-produced HIGH HOPES & HEARTBREAK, marking the first time he has produced an “Idol” contestant’s music in the eight years of the popular TV show. BROOKE co-wrote half of the disc with producer Dave Cobb (Chris Cornell, Shooter Jennings), which the Miami Herald praised for its “…infectious melody and reliance on timeless instrumentation–as opposed to trendy hardware…” (Howard Cohen, 6/18/09). Elsewhere, the Boston Herald hailed the album as “…a delightful throwback to ‘70s singer/songwriter fare” (7/17/09). Other disc highlights include the luminous first single “Radio Radio” which “embodies the tingly emotion that makes you feel like a 12-year old kid again” (New York Post, 7/14/09), the countrified “When We Were Young” and “Little Bird,” plus “California Song,” a joyous acoustic explosion of summertime pop.
“…with Randy Jackson as executive producer, her singer-songwriter talents get the right showcase on this Carole Kingish CD.”
–Chuck Arnold, PEOPLE, 3-out-of-4 star CD review, (7/27/09)
“High Hopes & Heartbreak is…filled with melodies and piano riffs that touch the heart and brings back simple songwriting that still makes an impact.”
–C. Chaning, ASSOCIATED CONTENT.com (7/16/09)
“White is at her best, creating a dreamy soft rock for a hazy, sunny afternoon…a sweet, likeable album that largely follows through on White's Idol promise.”
–Stephen Thomas Erlewine, ALLMUSICGUIDE.com (7/2009)
“The CD starts out with the uber-catchy current single, ‘Radio Radio,’ followed by the song Brooke debuted on American Idol last season, ‘Hold Up My Heart’…and just try to not sing along with the catchy chorus of ‘California Song.’…If I had to sum up the album in one word, I would probably say pure…in today’s world of Auto-Tune and vocoders, I find the raw sound pretty refreshing.”
–Angela Henderson, HUNTINGTON HERALD DISPATCH (7/14/09)
