OF “BROKEN WORD” SHOW
‘CALIFORNIA CALLING: A STORY OF GROWING UP PUNK ROCK’
ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL WEST COAST TOUR DATES

‘CALI CALLING’ ALSO GOES EAST FOR NEW YORK GIG
JOE SIB has announced he will bring his one-man “broken word” show CALIFORNIA CALLING: A STORY OF GROWING UP PUNK ROCK’ back to Largo, the highly esteemed Los Angeles theatre. After playing to a packed house on January 6, the freewheeling storyteller has confirmed a residency for the second Wednesday of the month in February and March. CALIFORNIA CALLING is a funny and subtly poignant performance about the transformative power of music and how the California-born Sib continues to have a sincere communion with it in all aspects of his life.
Sib is next set to perform at Largo Wednesday, February 10 with SideOneDummy Records artist, Oklahoma-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Audra Mae. He’s announced additional west coast dates as well with special guests on various shows including the Dwarves’ Blag Dahlia with a special acoustic set of “dirty” songs and Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shifflet. Sib will also take CALIFORNIA CALLING east for a show at The Bowery Electric in New York City Sunday, January 31 with Richard Bacchus, formerly of D Generation, opening. See full tour dates below.
The Wax frontman, co-owner of independent label Side One Dummy Records, host of punk rock radio show “Complete Control”–airing in seven cities across the country including Los Angeles’ 98.7FM–and host of the Bay Area’s Channel 92.3FM “Music in the Mornings” show gives CALIFORNIA CALLING a compelling visual edge by performing his entire show in front of photographs from punk photographers Murray Bowles, Edward Culver and Lisa Johnson.
In a LATimes.com review headlined “Joe Sib's funny, manic, often touching 'California Calling,’” August Brown raved of the first Largo show: “Sib's boundless earnestness about the identity-shaping possibility of music charged his part-memoir, part-comedy, part-backyard-barbecue-yarn about what happens when the old days never quite go away. ‘California Calling’ isn't so much a performance as it is a solid hour to get comfortable and let Sib–a coiled spring of joy when it comes to these topics–riff on stream-of-consciousness tales of teenage n'er-do-welling…The abiding take from "California Calling" is that the rush of youthful discovery doesn't have to dissipate with adult life.” (August Brown, 1/7/09).
