COLD
DEBUTS AT #3 POSITION ON BILLBOARD CHART
WITH ‘YEAR OF THE SPIDER’ ALBUM
CONFIRMED TO JOIN MAINSTAGE OF LOLLAPALOOZA
ON THIRD LEG OF TOUR
AND WILL HEADLINE SECOND STAGE DURING FESTIVAL’S SECOND LEG
A serious COLD front has just moved in.
Rigorous touring, a previous gold album and the top ten radio success of their current “Stupid Girl” single have paved the way for COLD to impressively enter the Billboard pop albums chart at #3 with their third album, YEAR OF THE SPIDER(Flip/Geffen), selling over 101,000 copies in one week.
In addition to their success at radio, the “Stupid Girl” video–directed by Marc Webb (Puddle Of Mudd, Green Day, Good Charlotte)–is spinning at MTV, MTV2 and MuchMusic USA. The band also performed the song Thursday, May 15 on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show in Los Angeles. Members of COLD’s diehard fanbase crowded into the show’s outside lot to watch the band’s performance, which included their signature song “Just Got Wicked” from their gold 13 Ways To Bleed Onstage album.
This summer, COLD—SCOOTER WARD (vocals), KELLY HAYES (guitar), JEREMY MARSHALL (bass), TERRY BALSAMO (guitar) and SAM McCANDLESS (drums)–have been invited to join the mainstage lineup for third leg of the Lollapalooza tour. They will also be headlining the second stage of the festival’s second leg.
Currently, the band is alternating headlining gigs with support slots for Staind and Godsmack as well as appearances on multi-act radio shows.
The band has emerged from a tumultuous personal year with the emotive and poignant YEAR OF THE SPIDER. “There were a lot of bad things that happened as soon as we went to Los Angeles to start our record, WARD told VH1.com (5/16/03). “Our guitar tech had passed away. KELLY’s (guitarist) wife’s brother passed away.” Soon after the recording began, WARD learned that his sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. “Everybody was just hoping that she’d go through chemo and everything would go away,” WARD added. “But once it started spreading…I was like, man I don’t know if I can even be here, let alone write lyrics. So I decided…I am gonna put all of my energy and emotion into the lyrics.”
This personal intensity is reflected throughout YEAR OF THE SPIDER, a moody, melodic and aggressive work that was produced by Howard Benson (P.O.D.’s current triple platinum Satellite). “This is the most emotional thing that we’ve done, and our fans seem to draw off that emotional music,” WARD elaborated to VH1.com. “Everyone has had their heart broken, felt suffocated, or had someone around them die at one point in their life. So everyone can relate to that kind of emotion.”
