On August 27, Nettwerk America will release CONJURE ONE, the newest project from industrial and ambient veteran Rhys Fulber. Best known for his work as former member of electronic pioneering groups Delerium and Front Line Assembly, Fulber steps into the spotlight for his first ever solo project under the moniker CONJURE ONE. Written and recorded in Amsterdam, Vancouver, London and Los Angeles, CONJURE ONE draws its principal inspiration from Mediterranean and Middle Eastern music. States Daniel Slaten in the current issue of OUTBURN (issue #18), “Conjure One picks up where Delerium’s Karma left off, focusing on ethereal, world-beat grooves and expansive canvases of sound…Rhys Fulber bridges cultures and time periods to create music both timely and relevant.”
Taking three years to complete, the bracingly resonant and evocative album reflects Fulber’s reputation as a meticulous artist. Highlights on the album also include the stellar line-up of guest vocalists such as Sinead O’Connor on the first single “Tears From The Moon,” Poe on “Center Of The Sun” and “Make A Wish,” Israeli vocalist Chemda on “Demascus” and “Redemption,” while Argentinean singer Marie-Claire D’Ubaldo lends her vocals to “Sleep.”
“It’s ambient, epic music with a pop structure,” says Fulber of CONJURE ONE. “The goal was to make cool, world-influenced songs without the constraints of a specific genre. As an artist, you’re always grateful for the support of your core fans, but at the same time you want to stretch and reach a broader audience. To create something that everyone can get into is music in its purest form.”
Defining the genre for the industrial scene in the late 1980’s with the seminal group Front Line Assembly from 1987 to 1996, Fulber had the foresight to change direction towards ambient dance creating Delerium (with Frontline Assembly collaborator, Bill Leeb) just before the industrial movement had run its course. Delerium’s 1997 album, Karma, boasted the track “Silence,” featuring the vocal talents of Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum selling Sarah MacLachlan. A global smash, “Silence” rocketed to number three in the U.K. charts, number one in Ireland, number four in Belgium and hit the top five in the Australian charts. Karma went on to sell a quarter of a million copies in the United States alone and over a million copies worldwide.
Since that time, Fulber has become an in-demand producer and remixer with credits that include P.O.D., Sarah Brightman, Mudvayne, Fear Factory, and most recently, critical and commercial favorite, Josh Groban, among others.
