NEW YEAR’S EVE PERFORMANCE SET FOR
SHAW CONVENTION CENTER IN EDMONTON, CANADA
4×4=12, the highly anticipated new album from electronic music producer and performer deadmau5, is available now via Ultra Music across all major physical and digital music retailers. Since its release yesterday, the album has already hit #1 on iTunes Dance Chart and #4 on iTunes Overall Sales chart.
4×4=12 marks the return of today’s most in-demand electronic producer to top form, taking the dance world by storm for new and old fans alike with the music press following suit. Highlighted in Rolling Stone’s revered “Hot List,” the album’s current single “Sofi Needs A Ladder,” featuring vocalist Sofi, was tapped as “maximum fist-pumpage guaranteed” (11/25/10), while the magazine’s review calls 4×4=12 “audacious” (12/9/10). Spin.com also listed 4×4=12 as one of the “27 Winter Albums That Matter Most” stating, “Sound-wise, the Toronto native's production style favors a thick and anthemic brand of progressive house/electro with ample kick and drive…” (11/29/10). Industry powerhouse Billboard said it best: deadmau5 will “…go down as one of the biggest stars in dance music history” (12/4/10).
Anyone that attended a deadmau5 show in North America this year would have experienced electrifying live renderings of material from 4×4=12. Performing in front of hundreds of thousands at major festivals and venues from coast to coast including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Electric Daisy Carnival, Austin City Limits and Treasure Island, to name a few, electronic music’s most talked-about artist and producer unveiled a wide range of new songs like “Cthulhu Sleeps,” “Some Chords,” the atmospheric track “Raise Your Weapon” featuring Picture Book singer Greta Svabo Bech and the deadmau5 vs. Wolfgang Gartner collaboration “Animal Rights.” Critical praise resulted:
“Dance music’s biggest new crossover star…”
“deadmau5 can rattle the dance floor as well as anyone on the electronic-music circuit, and his big-block tracks have a sly musicality that makes them as enjoyable for the folks bouncing on the sidelines, too.”
“deadmau5 is a phenomenon I believe is beyond most people’s realm of understanding…”
“Known to bring crazy intense energy to the masses, deadmau5 brought a mind-blowing epic set up for the night.”
“When Toronto’s deadmau5 took the stage Saturday night, darkness had set into the island but the progressive house producer was impossible to miss. Set atop a V-shaped console slightly smaller than a Mayan pyramid, deadmau5 brought his ominous sonic montages to life – and to light. His oversized mouse mask flashed in time with both his music and with the monolith construction elevating him, sending colored lights shooting around throughout the set. And while you never saw his real smile, you did see the “deadmau5” lips move. During the highlight of the performance, “Sometimes Things Get, Whatever,” the green Tron lines outlining his face reformed into create his signature cartoon grin, and his computerized mouth moved to the catchy refrain, “Sometimes things get complicated.”
“He also happens to make some of the deepest, most intriguing progressive house and neo-trance of the day…”
“What the faithful know is that he makes thumping, exuberant music that is not afraid to be accessible.”
“The crowd at Treasure Island Music Fest’s dance party day one reserved their greatest enthusiasm for the phantasmagorical light show and club beat extravaganza of Canadian electro house cartoon mouse deadmau5. Of course, deadmau5 isn’t really a dead cartoon mouse; its producer Joel Zimmerman, performing while wearing a cartoon mouse head. Zimmerman had a surprisingly couple-heavy crowd kissing and groping to pleasers like ‘Ghost N Stuff’ and ‘Sometimes Things Get, Whatever.’ ‘Sometimes things get complicated,’ deadmau5 refrained. But judging by the way hid fans were dancing, things were really quite simple. Dance music can be a very affective aphrodisiac.”
“How can you resist a nerdy dude with a cute (and gigantic!) mouse head slamming on keys and knobs? The gimmick is almost as exciting as the music, what with the various different ‘deadmau5 heads’ and all (i.e. LED light-up – mau5, the all black with glowing eyes-mau5, the signature red-mau5, ect.) His infectious drum ‘n bass hits hard, but his charming stage presence brings it to life…Trust me, this time won’t be boring.”
“Don’t let the giant mouse head fool you: Canadian progressive electro-house producer deadmau5 (pronounced dead mouse) is much more than a mere stage prop. His energetic, playful mixes are a true melding of electro and house with the darker, dirtier atmosphere of electro. The result is a fascinating mix of styles that’s unpredictable, fun and always danceable, and it’s usually married to an equally compelling light show bound to blow your mind.”
“He’s brash, extremely popular and wears a giant cartoon mouse head on stage. Canadian Joel Zimmerman, better known as deadmau5 (pronounced “dead mouse”), is on top of the electronic-dance-music world and doing it all his way. The 29-year-old’s soundscapes often mutate from brooding bass lines to starry-eyed bliss. Is it progressive house? Techno? Electro? Whatever you want to call his style, most people can agree: deadmau5 makes dance music for the masses. (And he’s not apologizing for it).”
deadmau5 will make his last North American appearances this year at Guvernment in his hometown Toronto on December 24 with a special double-header New Year’s Eve performance on Thursday, Dec. 30, and Friday, Dec. 31, at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton, Canada.
