DEADSY
LANDS OPENING SLOT ON DEFTONES FALL TOUR
LAUNCHING OCTOBER 26 IN OKLAHOMA CITY, OK;
THE TREK IS IN SUPPORT OF THE BAND’S
‘PHANTASMAGORE’ ALBUM
DEADSY–known for signature synthesizers, shrapnel guitar and devotion to distortion, not to mention a fierce cult following–are set to embark October 26 on a fall tour with Deftones, who handpicked the group to be their opening act. This upcoming trek by these two like-minded creative iconoclasts–who toured together this summer on The Family Values Tour–will come on the heels of DEADSY's newly released second album PHANTASMAGORE on Elementree/Immortal. Brimming with powerful songs like “Razor Love,” “Babes In Abyss,” “Carrying Over” and a wicked interpretation of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black,” the album finds the Los Angeles-based group “certainly sounding heavier and scarier and just as melodic on the new Phantasmagore,” according to New York Press (August 30, 2006).
For DEADSY–ELIJAH BLUE (vocals/guitar), NNER (synthesizer/vocals), CARLTON MEGALODON (guitar/synth guitar/vocals), CREATURE (bass), ALEC PÜRE (drums)–the opportunity to tour with Deftones is “a true honor,” says BLUE. “They are a seminal band and we are ecstatic that they chose us." The upcoming shows “will give us a chance to play a set that truly represents our new record," explains NNER, while ALEC PÜRE says this “will be a defining moment for us."
Prior to the release of PHANTASMAGORE, DEADSY performed songs from the album at Chicago’s Lollapalooza in early August. The disc debuted at #17 on the Top Independent chart and overall at #176 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart, selling more than 10,000 copies in five weeks.
“The goal is to make great, interesting albums and see what happens,” says BLUE, who produced PHANTASMAGORE, which matches eerily beautiful soundscapes and visceral thrills. “I’ve always respected artists who stay true to their vision, people who just go out there and do it and don’t care what anyone thinks, even after they become successful and the pressure’s on to keep doing what they’ve already done. All we want is to stay on the edge creatively, go out there and sing the songs, and keep building our little empire.”
