DEEP DISH NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY
IN ‘BEST REMIXED RECORDING’ CATEGORY
FOR THEIR REMIX OF DIDO’S HIT SINGLE “THANK YOU”
NEW TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
“Right now, this is the one form of music that is transcending everything out there. Politics, cultural differences, you name it.”
– DEEP DISH‘s Sharam Tayebi on dance music as told to URB Magazine (Jan/Feb 2002)
As they continue to make waves with their recently released Global Underground – Deep Dish ‘Moscow’ compilation, the revered DEEP DISH have landed a Grammy nomination for their rendition of Dido’s hit single “Thank You” in the “Best Remixed Recording” category. This marks their second consecutive Grammy nomination (last year’s was for “Remixer Of The Year [non-classical]”), for their remixes of Madonna’s “Music,” Amber’s “Sexual (La Da Di)” and their own “Mohammed Is Jesus” to name a few).
DEEP DISH is Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi, a Washington D.C. based DJ/remix/production duo that have become American leaders in the international dance music arena beyond their remixography that boasts notable artists such as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Beth Orton, *NSYNC, Depeche Mode and The Rolling Stones.
Together they sprang into the spotlight in 1998 with their seminal full-length release Junk Science, transcending genres with the dance floor smash “The Future Of The Future (Stay Gold),” featuring the vocals of Everything But The Girl’s Tracey Thorn. Other DEEP DISHreleases include Yoshiesque 2 (2001), Renaissance Ibiza (2000), and Yoshiesque (1999). Their next studio work will be an album of original DEEP DISH music.
The duo’s current offering Deep Dish – ‘Moscow’ on Global Underground., which hit #2 on CMJ’s RPM album chart last week, contains the nominated Dido remix. Notes Virginmega.com of the compilation: “The thing that sets DEEP DISH apart musically is that, yes, they are house DJs who are now more progressive than ever, but they aren’t afraid to play around with all sorts of music including (gasp!) pop in their production and mixing. This attitude makes for their ever-evolving, cross-pollinated club sound that seriously comes to an explosive head…” DEEP DISH has also transcended boundaries between music and fashion industries having been selected to provide the music for Versace’s last four Haute Couture fashion shows in Paris and Milan. In addition, DEEP DISH ranked #10 in DJ Magazine’s World’s Top 100 DJ’s readers poll for 2001–a direct result of constant touring and well-attended residencies in San Francisco, Miami, Washington D.C., New York, London and beyond. This month, they set off on the second leg of their DJ tour in support of their Global Underground album, making a special stop on February 9 at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
