DEPECHE MODE
ANNOUNCE SECOND LEG NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES;
TREK TO ENCOMPASS HEADLINING COACHELLA’S OPENING NIGHT
DEPECHE MODE are currently overseas where they’ve sold out an imposing 69 stadium and arena dates throughout 30 countries, with 800,000 tickets sold on the European leg of their massive world tour.
25 years into a career that has influenced countless artists while selling 50 million albums, the band enjoyed massive success in 2005. PLAYING THE ANGEL, DEPECHE MODE’s 11th studio album, spawned the radio and club hit “Precious” while their triumphant U.S. tour featured multiple sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden in New York City and the Staples Center in Los Angeles. PLAYING THE ANGEL debuted on the Billboard pop album chart at #7 and has reached #1 in 18 countries while selling nearly 2 million copies worldwide.
DEPECHE MODE’S current single is “Suffer Well,” one of three PLAYING THE ANGEL tracks written by GAHAN, marking his first contribution to a DEPECHE MODE album. The singer’s tune prompted Jim Farber of the New York Daily News (10/16/05) to proclaim: “a song like ‘Suffer Well’ stands among the group’s most engaging dance tracks.” The video for “Suffer Well” was directed by longtime DEPECHE MODE visionary Anton Corbijn, who has now guided 20 of the band’s music videos, in addition to recent collaborations with U2, Coldplay and the Killers.
In other news, FLETCHER recently discussed with Billboard.com plans for a live DVD with that was filmed February 18 and 19 at Filaforum in Milan, Italy for a summer release. "We're quite excited, because the audience went absolutely bananas,” says FLETCHER. “We thought we'd do Milan since we work there a lot, and it worked out really well." Commenting on director Blue Leach, FLETCHER said: "He's been on the road with us so he seemed like the obvious choice…He's been doing loads of offstage stuff throughout the whole tour, so there will be all that too."
