DISTURBED ‘GET DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS’ THIS SUMMER
PLAYING THE MAINSTAGE AT OZZFEST AND ‘OFFEST’ TOUR DATES;
ANOTHER HEADLINING TOUR FORTHCOMING
Over a year since the release of their platinum-selling debut THE SICKNESS, DISTURBED continue to maintain maximum exposure with a new single and Ozzfest touring all summer, in addition to special Offest shows in secondary markets along the way. After Ozzfest ends, the band have announced they’ll take a much-deserved rest before returning to the road in late September to headline another tour of their own.
The band’s latest single “Down With The Sickness” is continuing to build momentum, currently at #21 (in only its fourth week) on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart, while the accompanying video, filmed live at a radio show in their hometown of Chicago, has been added to MTV. The anthemic rock track features DISTURBED at their distinctive best, from the crunching guitar hooks and bulletproof rhythm section to DAVID DRAIMAN‘s striking, signature vocals. DRAIMANrecently clarified the song’s meaning to MTV Radio: “People always assume that the abuse section in the song is about me and my mother, and it’s not…The mother represents the mother culture of society who’s trying to beat the child–who is striving for individuality and independence–into submission.” In between select Ozzfest performances–which run through August 12 in New York–DISTURBED will make the most of their time on the road by joining Ozzfest acts Slipknot, Papa Roach, Linkin Park and Mudvayne on the Offest bill. Singer DRAIMAN recently described the experience of performing in front of an energized audience: “…Unbelievable. It’s better than sex…there’s nothing in my realm of experience that can be compared to it. Period. Better than anything you could possibly imagine and it doesn’t damage you. The lifestyle may damage you, but playing does not.” Meanwhile, DISTURBED‘s headlining slot on the Ozzfest second stage was short-lived, at best. As a result of the overwhelming fan turn-out for their performance at the June 8 tour kick-off in Chicago, the group were moved to the main stage. Even the newly expanded second stage area couldn’t accommodate the number of fans on hand for the Chicago-based group’s explosive set. Ozzfest organizers decided to move DISTURBED—DRAIMAN, guitarist DAN DONEGAN, drummer/programmer MIKE WENGREN and bassist FUZZ–to the 5:05 PM slot on the mainstage due to safety concerns.
