DISTURBED’S ‘THE SICKNESS’ CD
BREAKS THROUGH AS BAND TOURS WITH
OZZFEST 2000
The blood and sweat are beginning to pay off for DISTURBED. The intense and introspective Chicago foursome’s debut album THE SICKNESS (Giant Records) has pushed its way into Billboard’s Top 100 (#67 this week) with SoundScan sales of over 179,000 copies. CMJ Weekly has called THE SICKNESS “one of those catchy, addictive, and ultimately forward-thinking albums that leaves a permanent impression…This record is one sickness that will make you deny yourself a cure.” The CD features the explosive track and video “Stupify,” currently airing on MTV, MTV2 and The Box. In tandem with the album’s breakthrough, DISTURBED are on the road with this summer’s Ozzfest 2000, which launched July 2 in Palm Beach, FL and will last until September 2 in San Bernardino, CA. Excitingly, DISTURBED are currently the #1 best-selling artist appearing on Ozzfest, based upon their SoundScan sales this week. The band–vocalist DAVID DRAIMAN, guitarist DAN DONEGAN, drummer/ programmer MIKE WENGREN and bassist FUZZ-will also play additional dates, such as their July 25 show at New York City’s Irving Plaza with Kittie.
Meantime, the emotionally charged “Stupify” is strongly impacting Billboard’s Modern Rock chart as well as the publication’s Mainstream Rock chart, where it’s bulleted at #20. The distinctively rhythmic song typifies the primal rage and passion of THE SICKNESS, which prompted Metal Edge to rave: “Their debut is a delectable collection of bouncing aggression and devilish wit, all overseen by a sly intelligence.” Frontman DAVID talked to the Illinois Entertainer about the descriptive verses he writes on personal subject matters:
“In most cases, it’s simply very biting and real. But you don’t end up walking away feeling pissed off or upset. You feel invigorated. The lyrical content stems from life experience. People can take that and embrace that and make that their own and they can hopefully find that same sense of fulfillment we do when we play.”
In other news, fans can tune in when DISTURBED make their national television live performance debut July 31 at 11:05 PM on “Farmclub,” the weekly music show airing Monday nights on the USA Network.Current tour dates are as follows:
