DROP DEAD, GORGEOUS
CONTINUE TO BUILD EXCITEMENT FOR ACCLAIMED NEW ALBUM
‘THE HOT N’ HEAVY’
WITH NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO “TWO BIRDS, ONE STONE” AND ELECTRIFYING LIVE SHOWS
Things are continuing to excitingly build for DROP DEAD, GORGEOUS whose third album THE HOT N’ HEAVY–an explosive thrill-ride of a record that debuted at #6 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart after its June 2 release via Suretone–was greeted with critical acclaim praising the band’s musical evolution and songwriting strengths. Now in the midst of their second nationwide U.S. headlining tour this year, DROP DEAD, GORGEOUS are tearing it up onstage with electrifying performances that are further galvanizing their fans.
The live intensity of DROP DEAD, GORGEOUS–DANNY STILLMAN (lead vocals), KYLE BROWNING (lead guitar/backing vocals), JAKE HANSEN (bass) and DANNY COOPER (drums/percussion)–is captured in the video for the album’s first single “Two Birds, One Stone,” which premiered in early July on MTV2 and can be seen on both “Unleashed” and “The Drop.” Check out the video here: http://www.mtv.com/videos/drop-dead-gorgeous/404501/two-birds-one-stone.jhtml#artist=2063757.
DROP DEAD, GORGEOUS’ bond with their fans continues to grow because of the band’s evocative songs, which draw lyrically on real life experiences. THE HOT N’ HEAVY is as brutal as it is beautiful. “To be blunt,” notes frontman DANNY STILLMAN, “it’s about real life. This is not a concept album, it’s auto-biographical.” “The lyrics are about things that have gone on in my life or have inspired me,” STILLMAN continues, “whether it’s past drug abuse or alcoholism or being on the road around the world.”
Here’s a sample of the critical buzz for THE HOT N’HEAVY:
–Scott Heisel, ALTERNATIVE PRESS, CD review, July 2009
“Dirty, fast, raw, and lyrics that teeter between bitterness and sociopathic tendencies, THE HOT N’ HEAVY is a perfect name for Drop Dead, Gorgeous’ third album. After releasing their underappreciated concept album in 2007, the Denver sextet aim for the throat eleven times on THE HOT N’ HEAVY. Produced by Matt Goldman, you better believe the album hits hard early and often. ‘Killing A Classic’ begins the brouhaha with crushing guitars, as vocalist Danny Stillman proclaims, ‘I’ll take my time/playing with the hearts/of everyone I touch,’ while breakdown after breakdown paces the track. First single, ‘Two Birds One Stone,’ carries a Saosin-vibe, making this the most ‘radio-friendly’ song the band has written. Mid-tempo verses are carried by Stillman’s spoken words, which pave the way for the soaring chorus that promises, “If I ever see you again/and this gun is loaded/you’ll sleep in hell.’”
–Drew Beringer, ABSOLUTEPUNK.NET, June 9, 2009
“Metalcore with melodic elements that soften up the proceedings, so others besides angry, tattooed, shirtless gentleman can relate to it.”
–Greg Prato, ALL MUSIC GUIDE, May 19, 2009
“Emocore favorites Drop Dead, Gorgeous return with a fan-pleasing third release. Don’t expect emocore to go away quietly. Bands such as Silverstein and Underoath have pushed the boundaries of this otherwise limited style of aggressive music to respectful levels. As Taking Back Sunday and Avenged Sevenfold remain stable favorites of today’s generation, this allows Drop Dead, Gorgeous, a band with its own providential following to flourish. [Drop Dead, Gorgeous]…take a few nervy rolls out of their pop-laden comfort zone with the changeable screamo-screecho racket presiding over ‘Sue Simmons! Watch Your Mouth’ and they pour heavier aggression overtop the churning bellyache of ‘Fame’ and ‘Dirtier Than You Want to Know,’ not to mention a harmonious piano, drum and chorus finale to the latter. Kudos for the cheeky-and sadly accurate-title ‘(The) Internet Killed the Video Star’ and ‘Southern Lovin’ (Belle of the Ball)’ as Drop Dead, Gorgeous prove along with many of their peers that a hefty portion of these modern ‘core groups exercise their brains affluently. Heck, even their name is tres cool for the mere insertion of a comma to smarm up an old catch phrase.”
–Ray van Horn, ABOUT.COM, (June 1, 2009)
“…a wallop of screams, sarcasm and songs about heartbreak.”
“The latest offering from Drop Dead, Gorgeous shows a slightly softer side than previous recordings. The melodic choruses, such as the one on “Southern Lovin’ (Bell of the Ball)”, are hook-filled. The Hot N’ Heavy is noteworthy for Stillman’s impressive singing… Download: ‘Southern Lovin’ (Bell of the Ball),’ ‘Two Birds, One Stone.’”

—ORLANDO SCENE, June 25, 2009
“Drop Dead, Gorgeous did an amazing job. Even if you don’t like the music, you’ll probably want to see them again just because of the explosive live performance. Bands could really learn something from Drop Dead’s stage show. The members give it everything they have and never disappoint.”
