DROPKICK MURPHYS
HIT THE ROAD WITH SPECIAL GUESTS
THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES
FOR TOUR DATES STARTING JULY 7 IN CHICAGO
After the smoke has cleared from the 4th of July weekend, DROPKICK MURPHYS take their own fireworks on the road with a tour kicking off July 7 at Chicago’s Charter One Pavilion. “One of the greatest live bands on the planet” according to Kerrang!, DROPKICK MURPHYS will be joined by special guests The Mighty Mighty Bosstones for eight shows.
In addition to amphitheater and auditorium shows coast-to-coast, the pair of Boston heroes make hometown area stops at three Boston Red Sox-affiliated minor league baseball parks on July 10 (LeLacheur Park in Lowell, MA), July 11 (Hadlock Field in Portland, ME) and July 12 (McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI). Los Angeles punk quartet Civet will open throughout the tour, with Cowboy Mouth also joining the July 9 show in Columbia, MD.
Both live and on their latest disc–last year’s THE MEANEST OF TIMES (Born & Bred Records/ILG)–DROPKICK MURPHYS continue to evolve and impress:
“More than merely a relentless rush through jigs-on-steroids and punk blitzes punctuated by tin whistle and bagpipes, a Dropkick gig is a shared experience of brotherhood that can be downright infectious–explosive, even,” said the Orange County Register’s Ben Wener in a live review earlier this year. “At the very moment when the group could coast and revert to novelty, it has instead forged ahead rather fearlessly. Sometimes the good ones just keep getting better (March 3, 2008).”
“The band always packs a lot of musical power, with acoustic players and punk rockers on the same stage,” noted Brett Milano in the Boston Herald. “They began the set by alternating banjo-and-bagpipe numbers (the traditional ‘Johnny We Hardly Knew Ye’) with punk assaults. Then they put it together in one glorious racket (October 1, 2007).”
“A massive blast of exalted noise,” wrote Jon Young in Spin. “The Meanest of Times moves beyond just connecting the dots between working-class punk and ancient Celtic ditties, with surprisingly thoughtful songs that explore lives shaped by drunken violence and Catholicism–the brute fury of ‘Shattered’ alone provides reason enough to listen up (October 2007).”
“These seven Massachusetts guys know how to make even dire moments sound like a hot party,” agrees Rolling Stone’s Christian Hoard. “On their sixth album, fiddle, mandolin and other Gaelic accouterments adorn rave-ups like ‘The State of Massachusetts,’ reminding you they’re a punk band with a Celtic twist. They’re also songwriters – and good ones, too, preserving their party-boy reputation while turning out giant, soulful choruses on songs both manicured and memorable (September 20, 2007).”
DROPKICK MURPHYS–KEN CASEY (vocals, bass guitar), AL BARR (vocals), MATT KELLY (drums, backing vocals), JAMES LYNCH (guitar, backing vocals), TIM BRENNAN (guitar, accordion, piano, backing vocals), JEFF DaROSA (mandolin, accordion, banjo, bouzouki, tin whistle, acoustic guitar) and SCRUFFY WALLACE (bagpipes)–close out the tour with a July 26 show with Paramore and The Offspring at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Englewood, CO.
