DUFF MCKAGAN’S “RADIO LOADED”
SET TO DEBUT ON SEATTLE’S KISW 99.9
TUESDAY, MAY 12 AT 10:00 AM PACIFIC
Seattle native DUFF MCKAGAN (Duff McKagan’s Loaded, Velvet Revolver, Guns N’ Roses) will make his radio host debut next week with “Radio Loaded,” a one-hour show on 99.9 KISW “The Rock of Seattle” and at kisw.com. The show will air Tuesday, May 12 at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. Immediately following the broadcast, the show and bonus material will be available for streaming and download at www.KISW.com.
“I’ve always had a lot of fun as a guest on the air at KISW,” says MCKAGAN. “We figured it was about time they completely turned the reins over to me for an hour.”
In other news, DUFF MCKAGAN’S LOADED is touring the U.S. in support of their new CD SICK, while the album’s first single “Flatline” is buzzing at radio. The group will head overseas for various European festival and club dates in June. While on tour, DUFF continues to pen the weekly Playboy.com “Duffonomics” financial column (www.playboy.com/duffonomics) and contributes the “Reverb” column to Seattle Weekly (http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/duff_mckagan/).
Meanwhile, SICK is garnering praise from the media. Here’s a sample of what the critics are saying:
“McKagan viciously demonstrates his versatility, delivering attitude-laden vocals and choppy guitar riffs…Major Duff-kickings occur on the title track, where unfettered, Ramones-ish energy transforms a ‘Looks That Kill’-style riff, and ‘Flatline’ which sticks the Beatles on the night train.”
–Lucas Aykroyd, Revolver, June 2009
“Duff…rides the tide of aggression, delivering a perfectly pitched performance that mixes angst, hatred, love, despair and desolation without ever coming across as overwrought or self-pitying. There’s some outstanding stuff here. ‘Flatline’ is a powerful anti-love song…’Wasted Heart’ is a slow-paced, free-style blueser that somehow manages to be both aggressive and reflective at the same time.”
–Geoff Barton, Classic Rock Magazine (U.K.)
"McKagan lets fly with a feverishly punk-metal batch of songs that recall Iggy Pop (think back to Iggy's Brick by Brick album, which McKagan played on) and the Ramones in the fast punk of ‘The Slide’…Further echoes are of Lou Reed in the spoken-word on ‘Mother's Day’ (about the fragility of life), and the Stones in the funky ‘Blind Date Girl.’…The highlights are the riff-laced love songs with a domestic edge, as he lauds his wife who stood by him and gave him a couple of daughters."
–Steve Morse, Boston Globe, April 13, 2009
“Packed with guitar-drenched, hook-driven punk metal, the disc occupies a stylistic niche that includes the Stooges, Motörhead and Brutal Planet-era Alice Cooper…On tunes such as ‘IOU’ and ‘Forgive Me,’ McKagan and his bandmates mix slash-and-burn riffs and pile-driver percussion with infectious choruses that recall those of his former band.”
–Russell Hall, Performing Songwriter, May 2009
