EVERCLEAR'S
ART ALEXAKIS TO KICK OFF 16-CITY SOLO TOUR
MARCH 21 IN DETROIT;
SET LIST TO INCLUDE OLD AND NEW EVERCLEAR SONGS
As he and his bandmates take a break from the recording of their new album, EVERCLEAR frontman ART ALEXAKIS has confirmed dates for a solo tour. The singer/songwriter/producer will visit 16 cities beginning March 21 in Detroit and concluding April 9 in his hometown of Portland, OR. ALEXAKIS will perform Everclear hits (such as "Santa Monica," "Father Of Mine," "I Will Buy You A New Life" and "Wonderful"), plus album cuts and new songs from the forthcoming Everclear album (due out later this year on Capitol), including the live debut of "Volvo-Driving Soccer Mom" and "Glorious."
"I want to go out and see the faces of our fans in an intimate environment-just me and my guitars," says ALEXAKIS of his decision to fly solo for this outing. "What I want to accomplish with this tour is to take some of the older Everclear songs and bring them back to their basic form. I also want to take some of the new songs from the upcoming Everclear album out for a test drive. I did a similar tour before the release of So Much For The Afterglow and it proved to be very satisfying." ALEXAKIS will also perform songs from Colorfinger, his band before Everclear, and "a few surprises."
After building a following with their first album World Of Noise, Everclear released their major label debut album (Capitol) Sparkle & Fade in 1995 (it achieved platinum status). Their 1997 release So Much For The Afterglow sold over two million copies in the U.S. and featured the hits "I Will Buy You A New Life" and "Father Of Mine," garnered the group a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Instrumental ("El Distorto de Melodica") and earned Billboard's "Alternative Artist of the Year" (1998). In 2000, the Portland-based trio (ALEXAKIS, bassist Craig Montoya and drummer Greg Eklund) released the pop-inflected Songs >From An American Movie, Vol. 1: Learning How To Smile (also platinum) which was followed later that year by a harder-rocking companion, Songs From An American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time For A Bad Attitude.
The outspoken ALEXAKIS (whose own life story was told in a VH1 "Behind The Music" last year) made his major film debut last year with Heather Graham, playing a car-stealing drug addict in Committed. He also acted recently on an episode of "The Chris Isaak Show" on Showtime. In addition, ALEXAKIS is known as an advocate of parental financial support and testified before congress to lobby for a "deadbeat dad" bill.
