On the heels of the critical success of RADIO FREE DC, FORT KNOX FIVE has teamed with friends including Deekline featuring Shunda K of Yo Majesty, The Nextmen, A. Skillz, Malente and Sub Swara for new takes on the album for their upcoming late-spring 2009 remix album RADIO FREE DC REMIXED. “Funk 4 Peace” is the first track to receive the remix treatment by Australian breakbeat deejay/producer Nick Thayer and will be available on 12” vinyl and digitally in late January 2009. It can be heard here in the meantime: www.fortknoxrecordings.com/funk4peace_nickthayer.html. The song will be followed by remixes of tracks from the entire RADIO FREE DC album, with six 12" vinyl releases in total.
FORT KNOX FIVE is also excited to announce the selection of album track “Sao Funky (Parts 1 & 2)” as influential Seattle public radio station KEXP’s “Song of the Day” for today, Thursday, December 11. The Latin-infused, funk-filled track can be downloaded for free as a podcast here: http://kexp.org/podcast_songoftheday.xml.
FORT KNOX FIVE established Fort Knox Recordings in 2003 and have since made a name for themselves as remixers and producers (Afrika Bambaataa, Tito Puente, Bittersweet, Kraak & Smaak, Bob Marley & the Wail). Their songs have appeared in commercials, a number of EA Sports video games including the soundtrack for “Skate 2” and several compilations. The internationally renowned deejays were also selected by Gwen Stefani to be the house deejays on her “Harajuku Lovers” tour with Black Eyed Peas.
RADIO FREE D.C. looks to their hometown of Washington, D.C. and its rich musical heritage of funk, soul, punk and hip-hop for inspiration and features some of the D.C.’s top underground musicians including Asheru (Unspoken Heard), Mustafa Akbar, Rootz & Zeebo (See-I), Sleepy Wonder and Ian Svenonius (Nation of Ulysses/The Make Up). The album is also the first electronic album distributed by legendary D.C. punk label Dischord Records’ Dischord Direct.
