As GARY NUMAN gears up for the October 17 launch in Orlando, FL, of his 15-date North American tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of his landmark album THE PLEASURE PRINCIPLE (1979), he is giving fans an early preview of what to expect by posting new live tracks of “Asylum,” “Cars” and “Halo” at www.myspace.com/garynuman. Fans can also catch an early glimpse of the “The Pleasure Principle Live Tour” from the U.K. clip here: www.youtube.com/garynumanofficial. The track “Haunted” is from GARY’s most recent studio album Jagged (Metropolis, 2006). The Pleasure Principle Live CD and DVD–recorded live during GARY’s UK trek–will be available at GARY’s fall shows, check out more footage off the forthcoming CD/DVD here: www.youtube.com/garynumanofficial#p/u/2/SenWNwcfGt8.
Mojo magazine highlighted GARY’s career and the impact of The Pleasure Principle album in the current issue saying, “The first superstar of electronica, Gary Numan had already reached Number 1 as lead singer of Tubeway Army with Are Friends Electric? His first solo album continued the themes of urban alienation and technological meltdown on an unstoppable series of classic pop songs including ‘M.E.,’ ‘Cars’ (another Number 1), ‘Metal’ (later covered by Nine Inch Nails) and synth ballad ‘Complex.’ Mainly electronic, the inclusion of bass guitar and live drums produced an appealingly animated sound. Of all the albums from the classic period of early synth pop, none is more admired than this.“ (October 2010).
In other news, GARY NUMAN and his band will be the featured guests on KCRW’s signature music show “MORNING BECOMES ECLECTIC” on Wednesday, November 3. The popular show airs weekdays on Los Angeles public radio station and NPR affiliate KCRW — on air at 89.9FM and online at KCRW.com. It will be archived for future listening here if you miss it live: http://www.kcrw.com/morningbecomeseclectic GARY and his band ADE FENTON (keyboards), DAVID BROOKS (keyboards), RICHARD BEASLEY (drums), STEVE HARRIS (guitar) and TIM MUDDIMAN (bass) will perform and be interviewed live on the program at 11:15am PST.
In video news, GARY NUMAN’s Mortal Records label will release The Touring Principle ’79, a DVD of his first ever UK solo tour in 1979. Due out on November 30, the disc marks the transformation of electronic music from the underground into massive international success. From his towers of white light to the icy synthesizers, everything in NUMAN’s 1979 show was designed to be powerful, atmospheric and unique. The Touring Principle ’79 will be available in the U.S. via import and at: www.darla.com.
On “The Pleasure Principle Live” tour, the modern music icon will perform the album–which climbed into the Top 20 on the U.S. charts 30 years ago propelled by his unforgettable Top 10 single “Cars”— in its entirety. The disc’s impact was crystallized in the U.S. when NUMAN performed “Cars” and “Praying To The Aliens” to millions of people on Saturday Night Live. The music from The Pleasure Principle gave birth to new musical movements in the States over the next decade, including hip-hop, industrial and techno. The shows will feature material spanning across NUMAN’s career, including tracks from his forthcoming album Splinter which he's currently wrapping up work on in the U.K.
NUMAN last toured America in 2006 in support of his Jagged album. For his 2010 fall tour, fans will be able to catch him in 15 markets including Orlando, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Rasputina and Boom Boom Satellites will join NUMAN as the support act in New York City, with others to be announced for the other cities.
