Brash iconic rocker GEORGE THOROGOOD has unveiled plans to bring his distinguished brand of bare-knuckle, blues-based rock back to North American fans on a three-month tour launching May 12 in Vancouver . The singer, songwriter and guitarist–who just wrapped up a month of dates on his first Australian tour in a decade–will be backed by his longstanding band THE DESTROYERS; together, they have a reputation for delivering some of rock’s most fiery live performances.
THOROGOOD & THE DESTROYERS spent 2004 celebrating their 30th year in the business. This major career milestone was marked by the release of the GREATEST HITS: 30 YEARS OF ROCK CD and the 30TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR—LIVE IN EUROPE DVD. Armed with the biggest singles from THOROGOOD’s celebrated career, GREATEST HITS: 30 YEARS OF ROCK (EMI) has maintained the #1 position on Billboard’s “Top Blues Album” chart for 30 consecutive weeks. Not bad, considering the top of this chart also consists of albums by such respected artists as Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, Sonny Landreth and Keb’ Mo’.
Meantime, the 30TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR–LIVE IN EUROPE DVD (Eagle Vision) captures the THOROGOOD & THE DESTROYERS doing what they do best: ripping through a no-holds-barred 2004 performance at Royal Concert hall in Nottingham , England . In addition to live footage, this package features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and interview clips.
Looking ahead, GEORGE THOROGOOD & THE DESTROYERS are making plans for their second studio album for Eagle Vision. With a mobile recording studio in tow, THOROGOOD is using downtime on the road to work on songs that promise to reach deeper into his blues roots.
