RICHARD DORFMEISTER & MADRID DE LOS AUSTRIAS SERVES UP
‘GRAND SLAM’ OCTOBER 3 ON G-STONE RECORDINGS
DEBUT MIX ALBUM FROM AUSTRIAN DOWN-TEMPO STALWARTS
MAKE HARD PLAY WITH A NEW SET ON CD AND LP FORMATS
Grand Slam (1) One of four major tournaments played once a year – Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, U.S. Open, (2) Winner of all Grand Slam titles in a calendar year – Glossary of Tennis Terminology, BellaOnline’s Tennis Editor. (3) Title of the new album from Dorfmeister vs. Madrid De Los Austrias – G-Stone Recordings.
This fall, G-Stone Recordings is serving up something new with GRAND SLAM, a ‘canadian double’ (in tennis terminology that’s a doubles match with three people, one against two) from RICHARD DORFMEISTER vs. MADRID DE LOS AUSTRIAS (Heinz Tronigger & Michael "Pogo" Kreiner). Not only are these three mates major players in Austria’s music scene, they are also avid tennis enthusiasts–thus the title of their new mix collaboration Grand Slam, due out October 3, 2006 on both CD and LP formats.
Grand Slam is also suitably titled for the key productions and remixes of Sunshine Enterprises’ Madrid De Los Austrias (MDLA) and G-Stone’s Richard Dorfmeister who have in recent years combined to form a crack triples production team out of Vienna. Sunshine Enterprises label man Heinz Tronigger and multi-instrumentalist Pogo form the core of Madrid De Los Austrias. Together with their friend and production partner Richard Dorfmeister they have been working on their own productions as well as providing hot remixes for the likes of Zero 7, Koop, Groove Armada and Pressure Drop. When not in the studio, they’ve been on the court. 2004 saw the pairing release “Valldemossa,” a tightly programmed summer jam that moved the Dorfmeister vs MDLA doubles team up to the top of the world rankings.
Like all good mixed doubles, Grand Slam volleys up some winners, mixing in original studio productions with their team sharing their own productions on the album. “Boogie No More” tightens up a disco classic and introduces it to a new audience while “Make Dis Real” and “Schnitz” bring out the party sensibilities of the players involved. “On the Moon Maybe” shows another style for the band mixing jazz chords with a bass heavy electronic groove for a sublime disco moment. From the remixes, the Dorfmeister vs MDLA mix of “Back 2 Back” is an instant classic with its spoken word commentary on cultural relations. Groove Armada’s “My Friend” brings dub and funk elements to GA’s honeyed vocal while the familiar mix of Willie Bobo’s “Spanish Grease” first featured on the Verve remix record allows MDLA’s Latin stylings to flourish in their ‘sunshine’ groove.
