RADIO APPEARANCE SET ON "MODERN ROCK LIVE"
As GREEN DAY—BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG (vocals, guitars), MIKE DIRNT (bass, vocals) and TRE COOL (drums)-prepare to release their sixth album WARNING October 3, their anthemic "Minority" has exploded into the #1 slot for the week of September 22 on Billboard's "Modern Rock Tracks" chart in only four weeks, marking the band's fastest-rising #1 modern rock hit in their history. TRE COOL describes "Minority" as a song whose "guitars are percussive, almost like a drum. They've got big balls. BILLIE's guitar got big ol' balls."
GREEN DAY-now on a promo trek in Europe-will be seen on MTV in a "First Listen" special on Friday, September 29 at 4:30 PM ET/PT; it was recently taped in NYC for an audience of radio contest winners. For the special, portions of seven new songs were played, the band held a Q&A session with the audience and they also performed "Minority" plus the new album's "Blood, Sex & Booze." Once the taping was completed, GREEN DAY stuck around to play an impromptu concert for the fans.
The band will also perform "Minority" live on the Late Show With David Letterman Tuesday, October 3, the day of release. On Monday, October 9, GREEN DAY will be seen performing the song on Farmclub.com. While in NYC for Letterman, GREEN DAY will appear on the Howard Stern Show the morning of October 3, as well as stop by MTV's "TRL" on October 4.
From there, the band will make radio station and in-store appearances in cities throughout the U.S.
On the radio front, GREEN DAY will be featured on "Modern Rock Live" Monday, October 1 at 10:30 PM ET. Fans should check with their local radio stations for exact airtimes.
After the U.S. promo tour is completed, GREEN DAY will head to Australia for appearances and concerts lasting through the end of October. The band will take a much-deserved break in November before jetting to Europe for a round of tour dates. GREEN DAY are looking to launch their first leg of headlining U.S. tour dates in early 2001.
Fans should stay tuned for details…or log onto the band official website for up-to-the-minute info. GREEN DAY recently reclaimed the domain address greenday.com for the newly launched website, where fans can receive official information and news, photos, tour dates and merchandise info.
