GREEN DAY SET TO EMBARK
ON HIGHLY ANTICIPATED U.S. TOUR
STARTING JANUARY 11 IN DALLAS
IN SUPPORT OF CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED 'WARNING';
CHRISTMAS RADIO FESTIVALS IN DECEMBER ALSO LINED UP
Look for GREEN DAY's much-anticipated U.S. concert tour to commence January 11 at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas in support of their critically acclaimed WARNING (Reprise) album. The month-long trek will conclude January 27. The U.S. dates follow two week's worth of overseas shows, November 27 through December 11. Earlier this summer, GREEN DAY participated in the Vans Warped Tour, which was their first outing in over two years. Before the January tour kicks off, the band will perform at various Christmas radio festivals across the U.S. before taking some time off for the holidays. What can fans expect from a GREEN DAY live performance? Here's what a few writers had to say of their recent show at New York City's Roseland:
"…onstage, Green Day still plays jubilant punk rock. Tre Cool's drumming sparks the blaring major chords from Mr. Armstrong and Mike Dirnt on bass; the music goes rocketing ahead. Green Day chose the up-tempo songs from WARNING, like 'Church On Sunday' (a vow of faithfulness) and 'Minority' (about defying authority). They also took requests, claiming to hear people asking for songs from their first independent releases like '409 In Your Coffeemaker' and 'Disappearing Boy'…Green Day wasn't going to make its exit looking too grown-up. After its last song came a full-scale punk-rock equipment demolition that left a heap of smashed drums and topped amplifiers, while the drone of a battered bass insisted that Green Day can still be rowdy."
–Jon Pareles, New York Times, October 9, 2000
"For a notorious punk bad boy, there's something genuinely charismatic about Green Day's front man, Billie Joe Armstrong. At the Roseland Ballroom Wednesday (October 4), behind the tattoos, neatly trimmed hair dyed black and a guitar slung low and played loud, Armstrong balanced an image that lay between the all-American kid and the devil's cabana boy. For this tour-opening concert, Armstrong and his compadres, bassist Mike Dirnt and beatologist Frank Wright (professionally known as Tre Cool), offered a terrific evening of adrenalized pop punk, a career retrospective that included songs from WARNING…What makes Green Day's concert craft so appealing, besides the music, is how the band destroys the invisible wall between themselves and the fans."
–Dan Aquilante, New York Post, October 6, 2000
Meanwhile, GREEN DAY—BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG (vocals, guitars), MIKE DIRNT (bass, vocals) and TRE COOL (drums)–are continuing to enjoy the success of their album's first single, "Minority," one of the group's biggest radio hits, which was #1 for six weeks on Billboard's "Modern Rock Tracks" chart. "Warning," the album's title track, is slated to be the second single release. A video was recently shot in San Francisco for the song, which is already being spinned on alternative radio stations nationwide. The Francis Lawrence-directed video is expected to invade TV airwaves in January. Check out GREEN DAY at any of the following stops:
