AS ADEMA’S “THE WAY YOU LIKE IT”
CONTINUES TO BLOW UP AT RADIO,
GROUP TOURS WITH LINKIN PARK THROUGH FEBRUARY 24
BEFORE JUMPING ON SNOCORE ROCK TOUR WITH ALIEN ANT FARM
Adema’s infectious rhythms and heavy melodies were worth hearing,” wrote Bill Reed in the Colorado Springs Gazette (January 31, 2002) about ADEMA‘s powerful seven-song performance (see set list below) at the launch of the hotly tipped Projekt Revolution Tour January 29 in Colorado Springs, CO with Linkin Park and Cypress Hill. “Adema got it started with a half-hour outburst of driving rock. Lead singer Marky Chavez yanked off his shirt and spewed angst on chest beaters like “Drowning” and “Freaking Out.”
This high profile arena trek is perfectly timed to the momentum of ADEMA‘s second single “The Way You Like It”–bulleted at #21 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart–from their Arista debut album. With sales having soared above 300,000, the disc is heavy and modern: ADEMA merge crunchy guitars, electronic underpinnings and big melodic hooks in moving songs that chart lead singer Mark “Marky” Chavez’ ascent from personal chaos.
Once the Projekt Revolution Tour wraps February 24, ADEMAÑMARK “MARKY” CHAVEZ (vocals), MIKE RANSOM (guitar), DAVE DeROO (bass), TIM FLUCKEY (guitar) and KRIS KOHLS (drums)–jump on the SnoCore Rock Tour with Alien Ant Farm. ADEMA will join the in-progress trek March 2 at Roseland in New York City, continuing through the tour’s March 30 conclusion in Las Vegas at the Desert Breeze Skate Park.
On the television front, ADEMA‘s Gregory Dark-directed clip for “The Way You Like It” is a Top 20 favorite at MTV2 and has just been added to MTV. ADEMA are joined in the video by Chester Bennington and DJ Joe Hahn of Linkin Park. ADEMA performed the song on New Year’s Day on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
As they criss-cross the country, ADEMA remain fiercely committed to the road life. In an interview with the Lawrence Journal World (January 24, 2002), CHAVEZ related: “One of the best things that was ever said to me was, ‘Do you really want this?’ That rings in my ear all the time, because when it’s freezing cold and you miss your chick and you miss home, you start questioning yourself. But do I want this life? Fuck, yeah I do.”
At the same time, ADEMA are continuing to earn praise for their debut album, which roared out of the gate with the first single “Giving In.” A Top 10 rock track, the song “pours its down-tuned guitars through an anthemic chorusÉ” wrote Mark Lepage in Spin (September 2001). Describing the band’s sound overall, Revolver noted: “Adema’s double-guitar crunch crackles with an electronic sheenÉbehind Adema’s odes to emotional distress is meticulous songcraft” (Scott Hickey, November/December 2001). In the same story, RANSOMsays: “A sculptor doesn’t see a slab or rock; he sees a marble squirrel underneath a lot of extra rock. We approach songwriting the same way–we chisel away until we have a song. Sometimes it takes longer to chisel the squirrel than others.”
