HANNAH WICKLUND & THE STEPPIN STONES–fronted by 20-year-old powerhouse guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Hannah Wicklund–partnered with Premier Guitar earlier this week (12/4) to premiere the second single, “Ghost,” from the band’s upcoming self-titled album that’s due January 26. Kate Koenig of Premier Guitar raved that “…the 20-year-old’s stage presence and guitar playing is pure voltage…on ‘Ghost’…Wicklund’s scarlet-toned vocals drip over a steady blues-rock groove punctuated by gnawing electric guitar.” Click here to listen to “Ghost” via Spotify. The track is one of the many highlights on the East Nashville-based band’s new and third album (on HANNAH‘s Strawberry Moon imprint) that was produced by Sadler Vaden, guitarist for Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit.
Having just returned from a well-received European tour, HANNAH WICKLUND & THE STEPPIN STONES have announced the second leg of their 2018 “Sibling Rivalry” tour with The High Divers, adding over 23-stops to the tour’s overall 38-date itinerary. Tickets are on sale for both legs of the tour now (see all tour dates below). For more information and to purchase tickets, visit:
Click here to watch the strong music video for the album’s lead single “Bomb Through The Breeze”, in which the band’s dynamic performance is interlaced with striking visual effects. The video premiered on GuitarPlayer.com with the magazine’s editor, Michael Molenda, noting: “…Wicklund is not simply a shredder or a tonal colorist–though she certainly has chops and can go for some buzzy and less-than-organic sounds. What’s impressive to me is how she uses her custom Tom Anderson guitar and Orange half-stack to drive the emotional context of her songs with a combination of spiky rhythms, slow lines, fast runs, and cagey riffs. It all adds up to a thrilling ride.”(September 13, 2017)
Elsewhere, in a newly published interview with Hannah at GuitarWorld.com, James Wood hails her as “…one of rock’s most exciting young guitarists,” adding that “with her tasty fret work and tireless work ethic, Wicklund is a guitarist to watch for 2018.” (December 4, 2017)
The upcoming 10-track self-released album was recorded in Nashville, TN and is a fresh take on WICKLUND’s musical influences drawn from ’60s, ’70s and ’80s guitar-driven rock. “Once we started writing some songs, I saw that she had a real, raw talent,” says producer Vaden. “I was inspired to work with her by her love of classic rock music and blues. I wanted to honor that in making this album, but also add a little modern edge to it.” Polly Glass of the U.K publication, Classic Rock Magazine, noted, “Hannah Wicklund blends bluesy sensibilities with tasty wah guitar and jutting rhythm – with notes of (gutsier) Fleetwood Mac in the mix…the South Carolina-born (now Nashville-based) singer/guitarist is one to watch out for.” (November 10, 2017)
