HIDDEN HOSPITALS
TO RELEASE DEBUT FULL-LENGTH ALBUM
‘SURFACE TENSION’
TUESDAY, MARCH 24
Alternative rock band HIDDEN HOSPITALS has spent the past three years finely etching their debut full-length album SURFACE TENSION,which they will release on Tuesday, March 24. The Chicago-based foursome–which includes members from previous projects Damiera (Equal Vision Records) and Kiss Kiss (Eyeball Records)–relied on support from their fans that helped raise over $12,000 via a successfully funded Kickstarter.com campaign.
HIDDEN HOSPITALS—DAVE RAYMOND (Vocals/Guitar), STEVE DOWNS (Guitar), JARED KARNS (Drums)and JOHN SCOTT (Bass/Vocals)–earned a respectable place for themselves on the musical landscape via a pair of 5-song EPs, EP 001 and EP 002, released to critical praise. The track “The Absence of Emotion” (EP 002) charted six weeks in top 10 CMJ Rock Charts (20 in top 30) and produced a dozen commercial licensing syncs in 2013. Check out the music video for “The Absence of Emotion” here. Exclusively, EP 001 and EP 002 are currently stocked at all major music retailers in Japan via Cars & Calories Records. The band has balanced these elements over three years of many national and regional tours providing direct support for The Used, Hot Rod Circuit, Cartel and Blindside, among others along the way.
“We’ve spent our time together learning what our roles in this band are, and how to do them well,” frontman DAVE RAYMOND shares. “We found our sound through two EPs and we’re now ready to write the next chapter in form of a full-length recording.”
Produced and mixed by J. Hall, who also worked on their past releases, SURFACE TENSION is a record that churns heavy with kinetic energy and precise movements. A stable and familiar thread ties together the album–carefully paced through 12 engaging tracks–as a whole. The band transitions seamlessly between sharp, taut guitar-rock reminiscent of Diamond Eyes-era Deftones and an atmosphere of electronica evoking Radiohead’s Kid A. The band takes a minimalist approach to songwriting–the thoughtful process of reduction, leaving nothing but what’s necessary.
“A big part of why Hidden Hospitals exists is because the four of us have collectively agreed that what we seek is outside of ourselves and worth striving for,” states RAYMOND. “It’s exciting to me because this feels like the beginning.”
HIDDEN HOSPITALS plans to tour the U.S. extensively in 2015. Dates will be announced shortly.
“While we love the writing and recording process, our main goal is to be the best live band we can be. Onstage is the ultimate destination for our songwriting process.” says RAYMOND. “The time we get to be onstage in front of an audience is a special thing, and we take that responsibility very seriously. We want the audience to leave each night knowing that we gave everything we had and didn’t take a minute of it for granted.”
