‘I DO WHAT I DO’: NEW ALBUM FROM KEV BROWN
DUE OUT SEPTEMBER 20 ON UP ABOVE RECORDS
After numerous collaborations, a host of buzz-worthy 12-inches and his remix long-player The Brown Album (derived from Jay-Z’s The Black Album) which captured the attention of the entire hip-hop community, KEV BROWN now steps forward this fall with his aptly titled debut solo album I Do What I Do. Set for release September 20 on Up Above Records, this project guarantees to again have the entire hip-hop world taking serious notice.
The first single–out August 23–is “Work In Progress,” featuring Kev’s dirtied-up lyrics uniquely delivered on a hand-held mic run through a SP505 drum machine. The B-side, “Say Sumthin,” features guest MC’s Kenn Starr and Quartermaine. Paying homage to the true school while honing his own jazz-infused sound, Kev Brown has garnered a reputation as the “torch-bearer of the golden era.”
Heavily influenced by such renowned beatsmiths as Pete Rock, Jay Dee and DJ Premier, Kev continues to receive worldwide acclaim for his distinctive brand of grimy soul. Kev’s buttery-smooth production and laid-back vocals shine throughout the album, which is also highlighted by guests spots from burgeoning underground greats Critically Acclaimed, Cy Young, Grap Luva, Oddisee, Phonte (of Little Brother), Chronkite, Wayna and Eric Roberson.

Hailing from Landover, MD, Kev Brown has ascended from the ranks of the underground to solidify himself as one of hip-hop’s most prolific and universally respected talents by producing an array of artists (De La Soul, Jewel and DJ Jazzy Jeff) in addition to his own 12-inch releases. URB Magazine in 2004 tapped him in their ‘Next 100’ as an artist to watch and his work has also been featured on Comedy Central’s Chappelle’s Show.
