AND SITS IN WITH MUMFORD & SONS THIS PAST SATURDAY NIGHT
AT THE MUMFORD & SONS GENTLEMEN OF THE ROAD FESTIVAL
LOS ANGELES (September 16, 2013) – All in the rock ‘n’ roll spirit of saving the day, JOHN FOGERTY made a surprise appearance this past Saturday night with Mumford & Sons at their Gentlemen of the Road stopover festival date in St. Augustine, Florida. The iconic singer, songwriter and guitarist received a call late Friday afternoon and within a few hours got on a red-eye flight from Los Angeles headed to Florida to fill in for the band fun. who had to drop off the bill when the lead singer was told to rest his voice.
Upon arrival in St. Augustine and with a brief rehearsal, FOGERTY began with a rousing performance–first with The Vaccines as his backing band including his son Shane–on such classics as “Suzie Q,” “Down on the Corner” and “Fortunate Son.” FOGERTY then returned to the stage with Mumford & Sons for “Bad Moon Rising,” Lodi,” “Born on the Bayou,” “Proud Mary” and the single “Mystic Highway” from his acclaimed release WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE.
FOGERTY stated: “Travel thousands of miles, get a couple hours’ sleep, rehearse with two killer bands and play for 20,000 awesome fans with one of my personal favorites Mumford & Sons. Rock and ROLL, oh ya, worth the trip!”
In recent weeks, FOGERTY has made several appearances with other artists in advance of his national solo tour dates, which kick off October 10 in Los Angeles. Just last week, he played a solo set with Widespread Panic at the Interlocken Music Festival on September 7th and led the band through six CCR classics and his new single “Mystic Highway,” from WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE.” FOGERTY then guested at a Labor Day weekend gig as part of Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary party in Milwaukee, WI, where he performed alongside WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE collaborator Kid Rock. The two performed their collaboration “Born On the Bayou,” the swamp classic FOGERTY original from the Creedence Clearwater Revival days, plus three more CCR songs. On August 22nd, he was a surprise guest at Brad Paisley’s show at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA; where he and Paisley performed “Hot Rod Heart,” a rollicking FOGERTY original on which the two artists trade off vocals and guitar licks from WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE. He also joined Paisley for an encore of “Centerfield,” “Alcohol” and “Proud Mary.” Lastly, FOGERTY will travel to Nashville for Zac Brown’s Southern Ground Music & Food Festival on September 28th to sit in with the Zac Brown Band, who also appear on WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE, collaborating on the “Bad Moon Rising” track.
Earlier this year, FOGERTY took part in multiple concerts as part of the Sound City Players, the all-star band assembled by Dave Grohl.
WROTE A SONG FOR EVERYONE marks FOGERTY’s ninth studio solo album since disbanding Creedence Clearwater Revival. Mixed by Bob Clearmountain, the FOGERTY-produced album was recorded in Los Angeles and Nashville except for “Proud Mary” which was recorded in New Orleans with Allen Toussaint and the Rebirth Brass Band. FOGERTY recorded “Fortunate Son” with Foo Fighters at their 606 studio using “the” legendary Neve recording console featured in the #1 iTunes documentary Sound City.
