KĒVENS
TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM
‘WE ARE ONE’
NOVEMBER 11 ON RUMBUM RECORDS
Inspired to move away from traditional reggae and into something completely unknown for his debut album WE ARE ONE—due out November 11 as the first release on RumBum Records—KĒVENS [Kee-venz] has taken the words of Bob Marley very personally: “Reggae will continue to get bigger and bigger.”
“I took it upon myself to merge the different sounds I had been hearing on the streets of London into reggae music,” states the Miami-based musician. “I can say that finally I have succeeded in creating that sound I’ve been striving for all of these years on this album WE ARE ONE.” Produced by Grammy-Award winner Bob Rosa—who has worked with a wide range of pop and dance artists including Michael Jackson, Gloria Estefan and Duran Duran—it is an album that indeed finds KĒVENS fusing his reggae roots into a panorama of unexpected rhythms and ideas into something that sounds truly like no other.
From the deep dub groove of conscious party scorcher “Open Your Eyes” to the hardcore crunch of “How Could You”—and a plethora of radical reggae re-workings—WE ARE ONE has a genuine musical statement that needs to be heard. Everything associated with KĒVENS begins and ends with a simple yet so powerfully profound statement of purpose: Positivity is a necessity. He is a person who has made music his entire life, music that is always dedicated to perpetuating his increasingly important message to the world which can be heard on WE ARE ONE.
“Different songs can speak to you according to what you’re going through,” is how KĒVENS explains the organic flow of the album that segues easily like one continual piece of music. “The opening song, ‘HalleluJAH,’ is one that I’m very proud of. It’s the one in which I give thanks and praises to my Creator whom I serve. That song is there for that particular purpose. When you’re going through hellish moments in your life, that song helps you forget your troubles.”
On deck as the album’s first single is “Break Down The Walls,” which is a verbal take on the artist’s view of spirituality for all. There is also a hardcore rereading of The Police classic “Don’t Stand So Close To Me.” In the same way that The Police fused reggae with pop and jazz into a sound all their own, KĒVENS progresses reggae music into the next century by fusing it with underground aesthetics that are equally unique.
A dynamic live performer, KĒVENS has shared stages with a diverse genre-busting array of performers including Carlos Santana, Jimmy Cliff, Steven Tyler, Third World, Run DMC, Chuck Berry and Moby, to name a few. In addition, he has been an annual staple of the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. Look for KĒVENS to set off on tour next year in support of WE ARE ONE.
