KORN LIGHT A “FUSE”
WITH “Y’ALL WANT A SINGLE” VIDEO
With Howard Stern having just declared KORN’s “Y’All Want A Single” video as “…probably the most inspirational, the most spectacular understanding of what’s going on in this country right now,” the Fuse Network has added the clip into regular rotation. The video unflinchingly questions every aspect of the music business and is currently the #1 viewed video on Yahoo with over 600,000 views.
Marc Juris, president of Fuse, says: “KORN's video embodies the true rebellious spirit of rock and roll as a vehicle for change. It was a call to action for Fuse. After all, our mission is to air what true music lovers want to see and provide an outlet for artistic expression.”
This past Friday (March 5), Howard Stern praised “Y’All Want A Single”–a track from KORN’s current platinum album TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR–by saying that, “It’s probably the most inspirational, the most spectacular understanding of what’s going on in this country right now. I believe that young people–I’m talking about people 18, 16, 20–are freaking out right now because of what is going on with the religious right. They are angry. They are angry about the corporations running the music business. They are angry with the radio business. They are angry. And this Korn video, if you can get your hands on it, is the best music video I have ever seen…I get it, because I’m feeling the same frustration…What [KoRn frontman] Jonathan Davis is able to do is tap into the mood of young people. Young people are angry. When I go to concerts people are viciously angry. They are angry because you can’t get anything done anymore.”
Conceived by the band and director Dirty Halo (aka Andrews Jenkins), the clip features compelling messages constantly flashing on the screen that add up to a giant wake-up call to the music business. The video was shot at a record store in Los Angeles that was going out of business (a sign of the times). The enraged band storm through the aisles, violently smashing more than 20,000 CDs and display cases with crowbars. The record store staff and fans join the frenzy as windows are broken and the store is ultimately destroyed. But this doesn’t mean KORN–JONATHAN, MUNKY, HEAD, FIELDY and DAVID–hate music. In fact, one of the messages that flashes across the screen confirms this, “We love making music.”
“With this video we didn’t hold back our feelings at all,” JONATHAN says. “Sometimes you just gotta question authority and kick its ass.”
