ROCKET UP CHARTS AS 'NO NAME FACE' CD HITS #6
ON BILLBOARD CHART; DEBUT SINGLE 'HANGING BY A MOMENT'
BULLETED AT #4 ON HOT 100 SINGLES CHART;
SECOND SINGLE 'SICK CYCLE CAROUSEL' #1 MOST ADDED AT MODERN ROCK
Hot on the heels of the recently wrapped tour with Everclear and Matchbox 20, LIFEHOUSE have plenty to celebrate: their debut single "Hanging By A Moment" is bulleted at #4 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart while the platinum-certified NO NAME FACE (Dreamworks) CD jumps to #6 on the publication's Top 200 Albums chart. The group's sales and critical acclaim are accumulating as the Los Angeles-based group continue a North American tour (they're currently on the road in Canada with Matchbox 20 and will then head to Europe in June before returning to the U.S. for shows with 3 Doors Down and their own headlining dates). LIFEHOUSE's follow-up single "Sick Cycle Carousel" became the #1 most added song on Modern Rock radio upon its release last week.
Of the group's music and success, singer/songwriter JASON WADE recently told the Los Angeles Times (4/12/01) "You never know if people are going to respond to it or not, so I feel like it came out of nowhere." WADE (who's joined in the group by bassist SERGIO ANDRADE and drummer RICK WOOLSTENHULME) continued, saying "It was never about selling records. To sell a million records, I can't even fathom it."
But the group has far exceeded their expectations, with "Hanging By A Moment" becoming a multi-format smash and its accompanying video is in the Top 5 on VH1 and MTV. The song has struck a chord in fans for both its infectious, melodic chorus and reflective lyrics ("I'm living for the only thing I know/I'm running and not quite sure where to go/I don't know what I'm diving into/I'm hanging by a moment here with you"). A video for "Sick Cycle Carousel" will be shot in Los Angeles in early May.
In his Los Angeles Times piece, Steve Appleford noted that LIFEHOUSE's music has "connected with young rock fans largely through lyrics that document Wade's internal struggles. He began writing deeply personal lyrics and poetry at age 15, partly in response to the divorce of his parents. Though intentionally left open to interpretation, the lines erupt with emotional conflict…"
