LOELL GET READY TO START “FREAKING OUT”
MAY 20 AS NEW SINGLE GOES TO RADIO;
BAND TO PERFORM ON OZZFEST MAINSTAGE ALL SUMMER
For ADEMA, one of rock’s biggest new success stories, the music doesn’t stop. They’ve had only a few weeks off since their Arista album came out last year, with over 250 shows, plus key national television appearances under their belts.
As their self-titled album soars past gold, the band will release a new single–the explosive “Freaking Out,” one of the highlights of their live show–to radio May 20.
Following up the top 15 modern rock hit “The Way You Like It” and the top 10 rock track “Giving In,” “Freaking Out” marks the third release from the album, on which “Adema’s double-guitar crunch crackles with an electronic sheen,” noted Scott Hickey in Revolver (November/December 2001), who further cited that “behind Adema’s odes to emotional distress is meticulous songcraft.”
Meanwhile, ADEMA—MARK “MARKY” CHAVEZ (vocals), MIKE RANSOM (guitar), TIM FLUCKEY (guitar), DAVE DeROO (bass) and KRIS KOHLS (drums)–are set to soon record a new song “Immortal” for the Mortal Kombat 3 video game soundtrack. They’ve also been performing another new tune “Hurt Yourself,” at recent live shows, reports TIM, who describes it as “a mid-tempo song that’s pretty heavy–and audiences have been getting off on it we’re proud to say.”
A particularly memorable gig for ADEMA was their recent headlining sold-out show at the Astoria in London (April 15) as part of an overseas trek of the U.K. and Europe. “It was one of those sweaty gigs,” reflects TIM, “that we’re always going to look back on. There were wall to wall people and lots of insanity, followed by a party that went on all night long.”
Back home in America, the band heard the tragic news of Layne Staley’s death while headed from an afternoon radio festival gig in Dallas (April 20) to a show that night in Austin. Traveling on the bus, they worked up a rendition of the Alice In Chains song “Nutshell” and played it a few hours later as a tribute to the band’s lead singer. Then, on April 25, ADEMA were on a bill in Ft. Myers, Florida with Jerry Cantrell. The former Alice In Chains lead guitarist gave ADEMA the go-ahead to perform “Nutshell” in their set. “We wouldn’t have performed it without his blessing,” says TIM. “He told us, ‘You guys should play it.'”
Beginning July 6, ADEMA make their Ozzfest debut on the mainstage, a trek that follows their recent spot on the high-profile Linkin Park/Cypress Hill tour. “Ozzfest is an incredible opportunity for us; it’ll give us the chance to play for thousands of people who live and breathe heavy music. Plus, we get to meet America’s favorite new family, ‘The Osbournes.’ It’s gonna be a summer to remember.”
