LOLLAPALOOZA INTERNATIONAL IN 2012
RETURNS TO CHILE AND EXPANDS TO BRAZIL
SET FOR MARCH 31-APRIL 1 AT O’HIGGINS PARK IN SANTIAGO, CHILE AND APRIL 7-8
AT THE JOCKEY CLUB IN SAO PAULO, BRAZIL
LOLLAPALOOZA—celebrating its 20th anniversary this year as one of the most beloved music festivals in the world—keeps on growing internationally. In 2012, LOLLAPALOOZA will mark its second consecutive year in Chile (Santiago, O’Higgins Park, March 31-April 1) and debut in the largest country in South America, Brazil (Sao Paulo, Jockey Club, April 7-8) in addition to returning to Grant Park in Chicago (Aug 3-5). For his carnival of all things alternative, festival visionary PERRY FARRELL–in conjunction with WME and C3 Presents—is partnered with Lotus Producciones in Chile and GEO Eventos in Brazil. The announcement was made at the LOLLAPALOOZA press conference on August 5 at Grant Park in Chicago, with line-up details to be available at a later date. “Lollapalooza is a brand aptly named–as we continue to create fresh experiences by mixing musical ingredients,” says FARRELL.
With two outdoor main stages, an electronic arena stage and a small alternative stage, plus–like LOLLAPALOOZA in North America—an all-ages Kidzapalooza stage for family fun, LOLLAPALOOZA CHILE and LOLLAPALOOZA BRAZIL will feature an eclectic lineup of top talent from around the world including an array of artists from Chile and Brazil.
This past April 2-3, LOLLAPALOOZA CHILE was hailed as “a professional debut for a newly hatched festival,” wrote Jon Pareles in the New York Times(April 4, 2011). “Sound systems were superb and schedules ran largely on time…” The article went on to say: “Twenty years after he started Lollapalooza, and six years after he settled it inChicago each summer, Perry Farrell is an old hand at overseeing festivals. LollapaloozaChile started with a professional sheen on Saturday, the latest festival to feature multiple stages, prominent sponsorships, environmental gestures, do-gooder information booths and a big crowd.”
LOLLAPALOOZA CHILE—which in 2011 was headlined by such acts as the Killers, Jane’s Addiction and Kanye West–is returning March 31-April 1 to O’Hifggins Park, a gorgeous scenic locale in the middle of a bustling urban hub, similar to its Chicago home Grant Park in North America.
LOLLAPALOOZA BRAZIL will take place April 7-8 at the Jockey Club, an iconic and charming traditional site, wide and well-located, in the heart of Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo is the largest city in South Americawith its metropolitan area home of 20,000,000 people. With the city’s magnificent skyline also resembling Chicago’s, the Jockey Club is close to train stations and highways, providing easy access for all the fans. The race track where the festival will be held was the venue for Eminem’s historic concert last year. “The Brazilians have a very rich history of celebration. If we (Lolla) can rub together with them, there’s no telling what heights that party will reach,” says PERRY FARRELL when asked what inspired him to bring LOLLAPALOOZA there.
Since first hitting the road in 1991, LOLLAPALOOZA established its legacy as the ultimate summer music festival, providing a traveling platform for groundbreaking acts such as JANE’S ADDICTION, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS,PEARL JAM, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUNDGARDEN, SMASHING PUMPKINS, TOOL, ALICE IN CHAINS, BEASTIE BOYS, SNOOP DOGG and countless more. In addition, the festival embraced various art forms throughout its concourse section, creating the perfect intersection for art and music. In 2005, LOLLAPALOOZA was reborn as a destination festival, taking over Chicago’s historic Grant Park for three days every summer and boasting over 130 acts in all genres. One of America’s most beloved music festivals continues to thrive in the Windy City every summer, getting bigger and better every year with acts such as RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, RADIOHEAD and KANYE WEST. The 2011 gathering features such artists as EMINEM, FOO FIGHTERS, COLDPLAY, MUSE,MY MORNING JACKET, and deadmau5.

Perry Farrell:
PERRY FARRELL is one of the most influential and original musical figures in recent history. Dubbed as the “Godfather of Alternative Rock,” Farrell fronts Jane’s Addiction which formed in 1985. Creating a new genre and musical movement, Farrell and Jane’s Addiction changed the music scene and paved the way for bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and STP. In 1993, Perry created Porno for Pyros, a daring evolution to his diversity and growth. As well as being a groundbreaking musician, he is the creator and founder of Lollapalooza. Launched in 1991, SPIN magazine listed Lollapalooza as the #1 tour that changed the world. Known for its musical diversity, Lollapalooza was instrumental in exposing alternative music formats to the masses and establishing a sense of commonality across a fragmented demographic. The first of its kind, Lollapalooza quickly established itself as a lifestyle festival, pushing the envelope and exposing concert goers to a subculture of ‘alternative’ living and art, and provided a platform for numerous environmental and human-rights causes as well. As a constant creative force, Farrell continues to push his own artistic horizon as a music producer, electronic music performer and visual artist, as well as a rock icon.
