FOR THE FIRST TIME IN LUCHA VAVOOM HISTORY,
THE ACCLAIMED AND MIND-BLOWING MEXICAN MASKED WRESTLING/BURLESQUE/COMEDY TROUPE PRESENTS:
“CINCO IN JULY!”
THURSDAY, JULY 11 AT THE MAYAN IN LOS ANGELES
TICKETS ON SALE NOW
“When it comes to the biggest bang/bump/grind/headlock for your buck, Lucha Va Voom at The Mayan is the winner and still champion…VaVoom is truly two great tastes that taste great together: the excitement of masked Mexican wrestling and the enticement of old-fashioned strip tease with a rockin’ flair, plus a wry comedic tone via the show’s announcers.”
–Lina Lecaro, LA WEEKLY, April 30, 2013
The people have spoken.
Coming off their sold-out Sunday, May 5 Cinco de Mayan show at the The Mayan in Downtown Los Angeles, LUCHA VaVOOM is responding to public demand and will stage another Cinco de Mayan show on July 11 at The Mayan in Downtown Los Angeles. This marks the very first time LUCHA VaVOOM–the high-octane mix of Mexican-style lucha libre wrestling, traditional burlesque and blow-by-blow comedic commentary–has performed their Cinco de Mayan show in July. The summer heatwave will even be hotter…
Tickets are currently on sale HERE.
This July celebration will feature the best of the best: The L’il Homies, Mariachis, “The Queen of the Ring” Cassandro, gorgeous glamazon KARIS, crowd favorites Matt Classic and Matt Classic, Jr., the Crazy Chickens, Folkloricos!, the sexy Lucy Fur, muy caliente Bonita La Belle, the newest mini L’il L’il Cholo, tons of Aztec dancers, international dance star Lux Lacroix, Los Angeles’ own badass L’il Cholo, red hot Moana Santana and more.
Founded in Los Angeles in 2002 by Rita D’Albert and Liz Fairbairn, Lucha VaVOOM is non-stop, action-packed surrealism where Mexican masked wrestlers perform breathtaking acrobatic feats in a fast-paced, fun-filled, character-driven style. Known for their far-out flamboyance, its quick, exhibition-style, one-fall Lucha Libre matches designed for maximum enjoyment and action. Since 2002, LUCHA VaVOOM has regularly sold out 1,000-seat venues across the globe (Amsterdam, Calgary, Toronto, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Seattle, Portland and Philadelphia, among many other cities). When not on the road, the troupe calls downtown Los Angeles’ Mayan Theater–an elaborately appointed, 1927-built former motion-picture palace–home. Earlier this year Lucha VaVOOM headlined the “El Jimador Mexican Wrestling Bar” at Australia’s Big Day Out 2013 Festival where Ben O’Shea from YAHOO.AU.COM noted (1/24), “Sex and violence – it’s a winning combination but you’re unlikely to find it done as successfully or with such feel-good humour as Lucha VaVOOM…”

–Here’s a sampling of what the press have to say about LUCHA VaVOOM:
“To this day, I don’t know if it belongs in a club or a padded cell…There are older professionals too: lawyers, vampires and other deadbeats, none of whom fold their arms. That’s because Lucha VaVoom has the pacing of a prison break. Before you can process what you see, they’re off to the next segment”
–Chris Erskine, LOS ANGELES TIMES, 3/10/12
“Promising ‘A Super Sexo Y Violencia Fiesta,’ the Lucha VaVOOM Cinco De Mayo Spectacular at the Park West in Lincoln Park did not disappoint. Helmed by a pair of wisecracking emcees seated behind a professional wrestling ring, the event attracted a packed house, many of whom were clad in their fave grappler’s signature masks. And throughout the night, when the emcees chanted ‘Lucha!’ the educated crowd exploded with ‘VAVOOM!!’”
–John Thomas, TIME OUT CHICAGO, 5/6/11
“Lucha VaVOOM-Most Spectacular Spectacle Award for 2011: Lucha VaVOOM is a mobile ringside spectacle that comes with masked Mexican wrestlers, wisecracking MCs and plenty of steamy stripper acts to help cool down a heated audience…[the] vampy, vaudeville-inspired production has both heroes and villains as luchadors in a wrestling ring, pitted against each other by a bloodthirsty crowd. The high-energy spectacle gets down ‘n’ dirty with trademark sexo y violencia, flinging blood, sweat and tassels — sometimes into the audience.”
–Tanja M. Laden, LA WEEKLY, October 5, 2011
“…a raucous and irreverent extravaganza of burlesque, comedy and classic Mexican luchadore wrestling…The evening had the feel of an unhinged circus, as an increasingly rowdy crowd (which included ‘Cheech and Chong’ legend Cheech Marin), watched the rudos (the ‘bad guy’ wrestlers) take on the tecnicos (the ‘good’ guys) in bouts that were equal parts comedic jest and brilliantly choreographed feats of costumed athleticism.”
–Katie Bain, HUFFINGTONPOST.COM, August 19, 2011
“Variety shows are far and few between these days. It seems that you have to really look to find something that offers you more than just music, comedy or dance that isn’t Broadway-worthy. With that being said, the complete package that you will never see on 34th and Main is touring the world and made a two-day stop for Valentine’s Day in Los Angeles: Lucha VaVoom. Lucha VaVoom is a combination of sex, violence and comedy. Burlesque performers take the stage to start things off. Stripping down to what kind of resembles a thong and some pasties, these women mesmerize the audience with skills that would make any acrobat envious. Suspended on ropes or spinning on poles, the action gets started very fast, and that’s just in the first 10 minutes…Some compare Lucha VaVoom to WWE or WWF, but instead of focusing on the constant drama between characters, this show is all about the action. Rivalries that embody good vs. evil take the stage at least fives times during the night to the roar of a 1,500-member crowd. The fights last much longer than you’d expect, and if you’re sitting in any of the ringside seats, you can expect to have a wrestler land in your lap at least once. This no-holds barred fighting shows off these performers’ athletic ability as well as the imagination of the team that put this event together…In the end, there really is no better way to spend a night in L.A. that allows you to let loose and be entertained with not only slapstick action, but some truly witty banter and a bit of sex and violence.
–David Tobin, CAMPUS CIRCLE, February 19, 2013
“Over the course of human history, many incredible triumphs have been created out of the pairing of two seemingly unrelated things. Moving images and sound. Needle and thread. Lennon and McCartney. Chocolate and peanut butter. And such is the case with the combination of Mexican wrestling (lucha libre) and burlesque dancing. That is what Lucha VaVoom is all about: sexo y violencia…it never ceases to disappoint.”
–Zach Hines, THE CAMPUS CIRCLE, May 4, 2011
“The Valentine’s Day extravaganza orchestrated by Lucha VaVOOM at the Mayan Theatre is now legendary. Enjoy a night like no other.”
