New York-based artist/producer/songwriter/DJ Penguin Prison (aka Christopher Glover) is heating up with his newest single “Never Gets Old.” Co-written with Amanda Warner and Peter Wade of the electronic duo MNDR, the song is taken from PENGUIN PRISON’s forthcoming second album LOST IN NEW YORK due May 5 on Downtown Records. With its 90’s grunge inspired distorted guitar stabs and driving bass line, “Never Gets Old” feels like you’re driving 100 MPH inside of a video game. Says Chris, “The brand new thing isn’t always better than what you’ve been using for many years. This song is dedicated to everything that never goes out of style that you can do a million times and never get tired of.” Last October, Penguin Prison released “Calling Out,” the album’s lead single co-written with DJ/production duo Oliver, on IDOLATOR.com The first official release since his self-titled debut, “Calling Out” was the product of divine creative inspiration: it was both conceived and recorded in the span of a single day at Oliver’s studio in Los Angeles. SPIN.com has noted of the track (10/14), “A huge welcome comeback….Hits all the pop pleasure centers.”

“…the group has premiered their catchy new garage-rock tune ‘AAAAAH,’ which channels both the rawness of the Arctic Monkeys and the unapologetic pop of Franz Ferdinand. Quick-witted, conversational lyrics and a catchy chorus drive the tune, with rhythmic clapping and drums, and a fast-paced melody that cement the single as an instant, irresistible must-dance moment.”
—FLOOD (U.S.)
“The four-piece have an electrifying live show, are cult heroes in their native land and create stirring riffs, pulsating drums, and soaring vocals.”
—CLASH (U.K)
LISTEN TO “AAAAAH” (HERE).
TAYMIR (pronounced tie-meer)–the Dutch four-piece tipped as ones-to-watch by MTV Iggy–are bringing their infectious, garage-rock sounds to North America this spring to properly introduce themselves to U.S. audiences. The fiery, young group, whose modern take on the 60’s rock sound is garnering comparisons ranging from Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand to The Who, released their acclaimed debut full-length PHOSPHENE in their homeland of The Netherlands in late 2013. DIV/UNDIV (Netherlands) described the 13-song set as “Unpolished, daring and fun.” In 2014, the group became a force in their home country and topped the Dutch airplay charts with their single “AAAAAH” while stepping out on the international stage after being invited to open the prestigious London Calling Festival at Paradiso in Amsterdam as the only Dutch band on the bill. Last year, TAYMIR continued to build on the world stage performing at over 40 festivals including The Great Escape (England), Eurosonic-Noorderslag (The Netherlands), Berlin Music Week, Reeperbahn Festival (Hamburg), Waves (Bratislava, Slovakia), MaMa (Paris), Culture Collide (Los Angeles) and CMJ (New York). The four-piece also performed at the biggest Dutch festivals Down The Rabbit Hole and Pinkpop sharing the stage with international stars such as The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys, Hozier, The Black Keys, Foals, Ed Sheeran and more. In 2015, TAYMIR is ready for another exciting year with the international release of their debut full-length album PHOSPHENE, due out in Europe this spring, and the rest of the world later in the year. With a major run of shows this spring, TAYMIR is ready to share with the world what The Netherlands already knows…

Acclaimed German producer and singer-songwriter FRITZ KALKBRENNER will be appearing at SXSW in support of the March 24 release of his new album WAYS OVER WATER (Suol/BMG). KALKBRENNER’s WAYS OVER WATER was produced in Suol-Studios in Kreuzberg and follows the musical direction he started with his debut single “Wingman” in 2009. On WAYS OVER WATER, KALBRENNER stays with the sonic design that made his previous albums Here Today Gone Tomorrow and Sick Travellin so special–dusty, distorted drums, licks on Rhodes piano or guitars and melodic bass lines within strong electronic tracks. His musical universe doesn’t stick to, but transcends genres like house, techno or pop. One of the most surprising tracks on the album is “Front Of The World,” with its Afro-beat groove and mellow-soul brass parts, that once more proves FRITZ KALKBRENNER‘s versatility. It’s a versatility that, through the disco funk of “Pass The Buck,” the hypnotic house ecstasy of “Pitch Perfect” and the radio-friendly catchiness of “The Sun,” makes for a perfectly infectious album. Very present is FRITZ’ unique voice that turns tracks like “Heart Of The City,” “One Of These Days” and “Void” into distinguished works, as the vocal takes center stage even more than before. Shot in the picturesque surroundings of Switzerland’s Lake Geneva and scenic streets of Paris by French creative team FREEDOM, the visual accompaniment for “Void”—an MTV IGGY Video Of The Week–spares no expense in presenting the viewer with a truly stunning piece of cinematography, tailing a spectacular Golden Eagle. Globetrotting pop duo THE TING TINGS kick off the second leg of their North American tour with several stops at SXSW in support of their new album SUPER CRITICAL, available now via Finca/. The album’s first single “Wrong Club” has impacted commercial radio and is already playlisted at major market stations including Alice in San Francisco and KAMX in Austin. THE TING TINGS–known for their massive hits “That’s Not My Name” and “Shut Up and Let Me Go,” among others–approached this new album differently. Feeling uninspired, the two–Katie White and Jules De Martino–sought out an adventure in late 2012 which took them to Ibiza. As it turned out, unleashing their party spirit was exactly the impetus and momentum needed to craft something special and true to the starting spirit of their musical adventures. The result is SUPER CRITICAL, a hook-stuffed, introspective, modern disco record co-produced with Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor.

American music icon WYNONNA JUDD, currently on her “Wynonna & Friends: Stories and Song Tour,” will sit down for an in-depth interview with NPR’s Ann Powers Friday, March 20 at SXSW and will then take the stage later that night for an intimate performance at St. David’s Bethel Hall. WYNONNA and husband/producer/drummer Cactus Moser are currently in the studio working on solo material for her 8th studio album due out 2015 on Curb Records. It will be the latest in a string of hit albums that started with her quintuple platinum 1992 solo debut, Wynonna. That set spawned four number one hits and was the bestselling country album ever by a female artist at that time. In 1994, WYNONNA received the coveted Top Female Vocalist of the Year trophy at the ACM Awards, and Rolling Stone called her “the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline.” In the spring of 2013, WYNONNA was a contestant on the 16th season of “Dancing With The Stars” and also debuted the documentary “The Road Back” about Moser’s recovery from a motorcycle accident, in which he lost a leg. The five-time GRAMMY winning singer, songwriter, musician and New York Times bestselling author can now add shoe designer to her resume as she recently unveiled her new women’s shoe line, Got Soul, which is a new collection of bedazzled sneakers, wedges and flats available at several online and brick-and-mortar retailers.
