Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, musician and mixed blood (Cherokee & Comanche) Native American MICKI FREE and his band will be appearing on the main stage at HARD ROCK CALLING festival in London’s Hyde Park (full festival schedule can be viewed at http://www.hardrockcalling.co.uk/lineup/index.aspx). Additional performances include Stevie Wonder, Melissa Etheridge, Jamiroquai, James Morrison and Corinne Bailey Rae. Other perfomers throughout the weekend include Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney, Ben Harper & Relentless 7, Wolfmother, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Crowded House, Elvis Costello and others.
Just one month after the performance, FREE’s upcoming album MICKI FREE AMERICAN HORSE is set for a July 20 release. The 11-track disc showcases FREE’s fiery guitar and writing skills and the musical talents of his band, drummer Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz, Rachel Z) and bassist David Santos (Billy Joel, John Fogerty). This album marks the first in a series of NATIVE MUSIC ROCKS RECORDS releases due out in 2010 on Fontana/Universal.
“This will be my fourth appearance in London in Hyde Park performing on the main stage at Hard Rock Calling,” FREE says. “No venue I’ve ever performed at has been as meaningful and over the top as this event. Having a new CD to promote with the best drummer (Cindy Blackman) in the world in your band makes it all seem perfect here and now in 2010…I’ve invited my new friend Billy Wyman (Rolling Stones), who I met last year at Hard Rock Calling, to jam with me during my set; if that happens you might have to call the Rock & Roll doctors cause I will need medical attention for sure!”
In an early review of the MICKI FREE AMERICAN HORSE, Jeb Wright of ClassicRockRevisted.com said, “Free is an amazing axe player….songs like ‘Wounded Knee,’ ‘Lucky 7’ and ‘The Drowning Pool’ will have true guitar loving fans of classic hard rock sitting up and taking notice….Free has also started a record label titled Native Music Rocks that will introduce the word to other Native American musicians. If they are anything like Micki, then the world of music is in for a real treat."
Throughout his music career and successes, The Seminole Tribe of Florida, Owners of the Hard Rock Brand, took notice and asked FREE to work with them in promoting Seminole Tribal members and Native American Music and musicians. The NATIVE MUSIC ROCKS Program (www.nativemusicrocks.com)–sponsored by Hard Rock International and The Seminole Tribe of Florida—is being developed as a forum to showcase the diversity of musical talents within the Native American community. Today FREE works as the Director of Seminole Heritage Events & Promotions making him a worldwide ambassador for Hard Rock International, The Seminole Tribe of Florida and NATIVE MUSIC ROCKS.
