NU-MARK
NU-MARK TO RELEASE ‘HANDS ON,’ THE DEBUT MIX CD FROM JURASSIC 5’S PRODUCER/DJ, ON SEQUENCE RECORDS APRIL 20
With original Nu-Mark productions “Chali 2na Comin’ Thru” featuring Chali 2na and “Brand Nu Live” featuring J-Live
For well over 10 years, NU-MARK has been one of the West Coast’s most respected hip-hop producers and DJs, best known for his beat-making for Jurassic 5 alongside long-time colleague Cut Chemist. Now, the Los Angelino is ready to join peers like Madlib, Jay Dee and Hi-Tek as a formidable solo producer with HANDS ON, his debut mix-CD for Sequence Records.
Set for release April 20, Hands On assembles a diverse and eclectic set of sounds kicking off with rare grooves like Eddy Senay’s “Down Home” and Rex Brown Company’s “Hot Track” as well as a special section devoted to quality international hip-hop which NU-MARK collected on his recent travels with Jurassic 5 during their Power In Numbersworld tour. France’s Shurikin’ (“Samurai”), Germany’s Schlechta Umgang (“Crew Song”) and Scotland’s All Time High (“68 And I Owe You One”) provide just a few of the chosen cuts to the collection. “In the States, we’re virtually ignorant to hip-hop released from other countries,” says NU about his international flair. “On the tape, it goes from Japanese MCs to Australian MCs to French MCs and it’s all ill.”
Other great finds on the Hands On track listing are some new original NU-MARK productions. DJ NU-MARK featuring Chali 2na on “Chali 2na Comin’ Thru” is a sneak peek at his fellow J5 member’s upcoming solo album which NU is producing. “Chali 2na Comin’ Thru” is also being worked as the radio single for Hands On; the B-side “Brand Nu Live” featuring J-Live is the album’s closer. Plus there is an exclusive collaboration with Japan’s Key Kool on the title track “Hands On” and a special preview of NU-MARK’s other personal project, Blend Crafters with “Melody.”
NU-MARK calls his new offering Hands On because of his dedication to his craft. “I’m a hands on type of person whether it’s a taste for business or creative. I’m always editing and I’m always hands on with my drum machine work like the way I count out beats live at my shows.”
Meanwhile, NU-MARK is also busy at work on J5’s third album. On April 17 he will hit the road with J5 on a national college tour followed by solo support dates for Hands On (dates TBD).
