OSLO
PREPARE TO RELEASE THEIR SELF TITLED DEBUT
MARCH 29 ON FKE RECORDS;
RECORD RELEASE SHOW SET FOR
MARCH 29 AT THE KEY CLUB IN HOLLYWOOD;
BAND TO PERFORM ON ‘CHECK ONE…TWO’ ON INDIE 103.1 IN LOS ANGELES SUNDAY, MARCH 27
As OSLO prepare to release their self-titled debut March 29 on FKE Records (Majestic Recording Inc. distribution) the group–building a buzz for their subtly poignant anthems and haunting guitar soundscapes–have announced a CD release party to take place the same day at the Key Club in Los Angeles. On Sunday, March 27, the band will perform live on the ‘Check One…Two’ Indie 103.1 radio show in Los Angeles (show airs 10:00PM-12:00AM PST and listen online at: www.indie1031.fm).
After the CD release party, OSLO will hit the road for a ten-city club swing up the West Coast–which includes a special acoustic gig on April 9 in Hollywood at Highland Grounds–that wraps April 18 in Portland.
Standout songs on their album include: disc opener “The Stranger,” where MATTIA BORRANI’s soul-baring vocals and falsetto-capped delivery awaken an evocative night-drive ballad; the stunning “Starlight,” highlighted by GABRIALMCNAIR’s liquid guitar-playing and angelic backing vocals; and L.A. radio favorite “Minutegun” which builds from ominous accordion drones and exemplifies KERRY WAYNE JAMES’ precision bass tones.
Already lauded in their native Los Angeles for a bracing live show, OSLO–who are a five-piece on-stage–deliver an audio-visual sensory overload filled out with ambient tones and psychedelic colors lighting up the room.
Check out some early critical acclaim for OSLO–featuring BORRANI as lead vocalist and on guitar (mellowdrone), MCNAIR on lead guitar and backing vocals (No Doubt multi-instrumentalist) and bassist JAMES (Scapegoat Wax, mellowdrone)–and catch the band in your town (see dates below).
OSLO critical soundbites:
“Moody, atmospheric rock that wouldn’t be out of place alongside Brit-pop-style bands Steadman and South.”
–Kevin Bronson, LOS ANGELES TIMES, (3/15/04)
“The art of Oslo’s atmospheric rock relies on the science of blending soft harmonies with warm synthesizer pads, alternative guitar riffs and heart-thumping drumbeats. Oslo’s focus is a warm, collectively orchestrated sound.”
–Richard Frias, MUSIC CONNECTION, (3/28/04)
“Oslo synthesize Brit Pop, New Wave, Art Rock, and Electronica into gloriously atmospheric and emotional songs. ‘Minutegun’ is Oslo’s most austere and stirring song…’Starlight’ is another standout and live favorite, a perfectly arranged rocker with fuzzed out bass, searing lead guitar and powerful vocals.”
–Bret Miller, HIGHWIRE DAZE (Los Angeles, 2/05)
“Oslo has made one of the best recordings I’ve heard all year, and they are a phenomenal live band. People need to hear and see them.”
–Mark Sovel, Music Director, Indie 103.1 FM Los Angeles (2/05)
“[Oslo’s} atmospheric, borderline psychedelic rock sound provides impetus for the electric guitar and synthesized fillers, making this album incredibly ear friendly.”
–Ally Berdt, THE MUSIC EDGE (3/4/05)
“Oslo have a searching, personal singing style that departs from sounding pretty and relies more on delivering an emotion or a dark thought. Some songs bear closer resemblance to pre-success Verve and others to current bands like The Open and Hope of The States. This is for all those kids in creepers and gray cloaks, hoping for the sun to stop shining. Oslo take you through windswept terrain where guitars echo off shallow bays and the bass becomes a mesmerizing pulse. They venture from soaked guitar pedals to stripped down rock drumming, landing between the stylized fashion of Interpol and the more aggressive, electronically abated darker sound of Cooper Temple Clause. There is good reason to be excited about this band.”
–Paul Leeds, CULTURE BUNKER, (2/05)
