PAPA ROACH INFESTS BILLBOARD TOP 50; “LAST RESORT” BUZZING AT ROCK RADIO, MTV; WARPED TOUR UP NEXT
LOS ANGELES, May 5, 2000 – Papa Roach is living up to its promise to infest the masses as Infest (DreamWorks Records) enters Billboard’s Top 200 album chart this week at #48. The band’s major label debut has sold nearly 30,000 copies since its April 25 release.
Buoyed by key adds at KROQ (Los Angeles), WXRK (New York) and WBCN (Boston), first Infest radio track “Last Resort” makes its debut at #39 with a bullet on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Meanwhile, the video for “Last Resort,” directed by Marcos Siega (Blink 182, Sevendust, P.O.D.), was just added at MTV as a “Buzzclip.”
This activity comes hot on the heels of sold-out Papa Roach headlining club shows in L.A., Phoenix and Sacramento (the quartet is from nearby Vacaville, Calif.), where the band drew more than 700 fans to an in-store performance. P-Roach’s Coby Dick (vocals), Jerry Horton (guitar), Tobin Esperance (bass) and Dave Buckner (drums) will soon be playing gigs sponsored by radio stations – including KQRC (Kansas City), KXTE (Las Vegas) and Live 105 (San Francisco) – followed by dates on this year’s Vans Warped Tour.
Infest was described by Wall Of Sound as “the work of a tight, fully formed outfit.” The magazine went on to report: “Each song is a stew of shifting tempos and rolling dynamics, stirring together heavy metal, punk and funk to the point where it sounds like a single flava rather than a hybrid” (May 2, 2000). The LA Weekly informed, “Papa Roach has a brand new album of no-nonsense head-banging melodies that gets better with each listening” (April 28, 2000). And the San Jose Mercury News chimed in: “Unlike some other bands of its ilk, Papa Roach’s amalgamation of metal-industrial-punk-funk manages to combine lyrics on weighty topics such as suicide and teenagers who have fumbled away the naivete of their youth. The mixture makes for a cathartic listening experience, from the start (‘Last Resort’) to the finish (the hidden track ‘Tightrope’)” (April 25, 2000). Infest was produced by Jay Baumgardner (System Of A Down, Coal Chamber, Slipknot).
