‘LAST OF SEVEN';
COLUMBIA RECORDS DEBUT SOLO ALBUM
SET FOR SEPTEMBER 18 RELEASE
“From the steel mills of Pennsylvania
To the piers of the Puget Sound
Here I am
The last of seven…”
–Pat Monahan, “Last Of Seven”
PAT MONAHAN is set to release his debut solo album–LAST OF SEVEN–September 18 on Columbia Records. Featuring the first single “Her Eyes,” the album opens an exciting new chapter for the frontman of the Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum group Train, known for such radio classics as "Meet Virginia," "Drops Of Jupiter" and "Calling All Angels."
Joining forces with esteemed producer Patrick Leonard (Madonna, Elton John, Roger Waters), MONAHAN has crafted a soulful rock and pop album that gives his soaring emotive vocals and vivid storytelling lyrics an exciting new dimension. All the tracks on LAST OF SEVEN–a mix of up-tempo rock, ballads and soulful grooves with gospel-imbued touches–were written or co-written by MONAHAN. He is joined by Brandi Carlile on the duet “Pirate On The Run,” while Graham Nash lends background vocals to “Cowboys and Indians” and Richie Sambora adds acoustic guitar to “Someday.”
MONAHAN’s decision to record a solo album while Train is taking a break resulted from his first-ever collaborations with other songwriters over the course of the last year.
As PAT explains, “It started with a request from Tina Turner to co-write on her next record. I went to London to work with some writers and the experience was so good, I just wanted to keep trying new things.” When MONAHAN began to write with Patrick Leonard, the spirit of collaboration took him in some new directions. “I thought it would be great to work with someone who is as devoted to songwriting as I am. When I heard these songs, it was very clear to me that I wasn’t making a Train record, I was writing a different record.”
LAST OF SEVEN gave MONAHAN, a Pennsylvania native who now lives in the Pacific Northwest, the opportunity to express himself in a more personal way, as particularly illustrated by the album’s title and lead track. “I’m the last of seven kids and I’ve always described myself that way for as long as I can remember,” MONAHAN says. “Since this is my record and not a group effort, I thought I could reveal more facets of myself.”
