TO RELEASE ‘PINK CRUSTACEANS AND GOOD VIBRATIONS’
FIFTH STUDIO ALBUM OUT ON THE BAND’S SELF-RUN LABEL LAW RECORDS,
IN ASSOCIATION WITH
CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE SOUND LABS/MRI DISTRIBUTION
ANNOUNCE SUMMER AMPHITHEATRE TOUR WITH SLIGHTLY STOOPID
Summer’s here…and the time is right for the new album by PEPPER, out July 22. The title says it all: PINK CRUSTACEANS AND GOOD VIBRATIONS.
The Hawaiian-bred, Southern California-based veteran touring band PEPPER has sold over 400,000 records independently; their music has appeared in many movie, television and video game soundtracks; and they’ve had a couple of singles appear on the Billboard “Hot Modern Rock Tracks” chart. Their fifth studio album PINK CRUSTACEANS AND GOOD VIBRATIONS—to be released via their self-run label LAW Records, in association with Controlled Substance Sound Labs/MRI distribution—is filled with the band’s trademark rock-funk-reggae hybrid grooves. Produced by Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers–who also took to the boards on the band’s fourth album No Shame–and engineered by Wyn Davis at Total Access Studio in Redondo Beach, the album is destined to be the soundtrack to countless beach outings and backyard BBQ’s this summer.
PEPPER–BRET BOLLINGER (Vocals/Bass), KALEO WASSMAN (Vocals/Guitar) and YESOD WILLIAMS (Drums/Vocals)–has amassed a large and loyal following through their non-stop touring since arriving in the Southern California after leaving Hawaii’s Big Island 11 years ago. The band is currently on tour with Flogging Molly in Europe and will return for a summer coast-to-coast U.S. amphitheatre tour with Slightly Stoopid, kicking off August 1 in Las Vegas (see dates below).
Named after a line in the movie “Club Dread”–written by and starring the Broken Lizard comedy troupe (“Super Troopers,” “Beerfest”)–PINK CRUSTACEANS AND GOOD VIBRATIONS keeps with the light-hearted energy that PEPPER fans are used to, as does the irreverent bonus track “Cock Man,” which features Randy Bradbury from Pennywise. PEPPER’s Wassman teases, “There has never been a more exciting time to be a musician and ‘Cockman’ embraces that.” All joking aside, he adds “you can tell that we’re still laughing. We’re really grateful to be able to keep doing this.”
Bradbury also collaborated with PEPPER on the track “Black Out” and the future b-side release “Reliable.” Other collaborators on PINK CRUSTACEANS include fellow Warped Tour vets Street Drum Corps, who recorded a number of songs with them including “Things That You Love” and “Ambition.” Ronnie King of Death Row Records also reprised his role as keyboard king on tracks like the wah-wah drenched “Do Something.”
PEPPER has come into their own with PINK CRUSTACEANS, their most cohesive work so far. The set opens with “Freeze,” an ominous, aggressive call-to-arms on the dancefloor with standout vocals from Kaleo Wassman; it starts like a secret assault and launches into a full-blown hold-up. With change-ups that take you down to the depths of dark times and bring you back to the triumphant highs of a partnership that stands the test of time, bassist Bret Bollinger delivers on “Stand and Fall.” And drummer Yesod Williams anchors the album in the same manner that he holds the band together–with an explosive percussive set that would make his father (Roy Williams of rock band The Law) proud.
