Los Angeles-based indie record label POP CAUTIOUS RECORDS–which produces, promotes and releases various flavors of indie-folk music–has announced that label signing SENECA AND THE RIVER’s debut self-titled four-track EP will be released Friday, April 24 via iTunes and all other digital retailers, select record stores and at www.shop.popcautious.com. Produced by Eric Corne at Seahorse Sound Studios, the EP is being launched with the first single “Hold Me Up,” which will be available beginning Friday, April 10.
SENECA AND THE RIVER—Seneca Pettee (Vocals/Guitar), Tyler Porterfield (Mandolin/Vocals), Luke Strand (Trumpet) and Kaeleigh Hamel-Curd (Drums)–is an indie folk-rock band that formed during the summer of 2013 in Los Angeles. Initially the band came together for an Artist Development Competition and included a dozen of Seneca’s friends and co-workers. In 2013 Music Connection named the group one of their “Top 100 Live Unsigned Artists & Bands,” and over the past year and a half, SENECA AND THE RIVER’s sound has developed and become uniquely identifiable. The group recently released a music video for their single “Lately,” which was featured on the label’s first release, a three-song EP titled Sampler. Check out the video for “Lately” here.
SENECA AND THE RIVER are set for an intimate performance at Sadie Kitchen and Lounge in Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 15 as part of their weekly Sadie Sessions event. Attendees will be able to pick up a copy of SENECA AND THE RIVER’s EP prior to the April 24 release date. More information can be found at www.sadiela.com.

POP CAUTIOUS RECORDS strives to establish a unique and identifiable culture in the Los Angeles music scene. There are presently four acts signed to the label that was founded by musician, producer and composer Tyler Porterfield (also known as Pop Cautious): Seneca and The River, Pop Cautious, Luke Strand and the newly-announced signing, Devin O’Rourke. Pop Cautious formed the label in order to establish a creative, collaborative environment and ideal platform to better serve himself and his musician friends. “This has been growing organically,” says Pop Cautious. “It is a collective, collaborative movement of artists helping each other out.” All of the label’s artists intersect artistically; Pop Cautious and Luke Strand perform as members of Seneca at The River (on mandolin and trumpet respectively), while Devin O’Rourke directs videos for the artists.
Pop Cautious hails from Houston, TX and fine-tuned his sound gigging in Texas while studying music theory at the University of Texas. In 2010, he decided to move to Los Angeles for a film school program, and shortly thereafter joined Seneca and the River as mandolin player. His versatile background in rock, jazz, experimental, classical, singer/songwriter, and more, lend him the valuable tools necessary to craft his music according to emotion and feel. His solo track “Willow” was released as a single (2/3). You can watch the lyric video here. Grammy award-winning saxophonist and former contributing member of The Mars Volta Adrián Terrazas-González lends his sax skills to “Willow,” which was mixed by producer/engineer Mikal Reid (Ben Harper).
