All points to one thing…KORN IS BACK!
KORN–who've sold over 25 million albums–have invited Mudvayne and 10 Years to join them on this six-week arena trek which launches February 24 in Bakersfield, CA, where the band was formed, and runs through April 4. These dates are in connection with KORN's critically acclaimed seventh album SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE (EMI/Virgin), which entered the Billboard pop albums chart at #3, marking KORN's sixth top five entry on this chart. In a mere matter of weeks, the CD has already sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide, surpassing expectations and initial sales of their last few records.
Tickets for most shows start going on sale January 21. As an added bonus for their fans, Korn is offering a free one-year membership to the KORN BSC Online Fan Club with every ticket purchased online–another industry-leading first by Korn, connecting the live concert experience with digital exclusive content and community.
KORN launched the release of SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE in grand style. They shook up the music video genre with the “Twisted Transistor” video that cast today’s leading hip hop stars impersonating the band in what is essentially a mini-movie. They also made their first-ever performance in a U.S. television studio when they appeared November 19 on “Saturday Night Live,” blasting out their blazing single “Twisted Transistor” and their classic volatile hit “Freak On A Leash.” KORN also made national television airwaves, taking the art of live performance to the next level by becoming the first multi-platinum rock band to perform a set while at 37,000 feet on board a transatlantic private aircraft en route to New York from London. The plane, headed to New York for a KORN show at Hammerstein Ballroom, was filled with European MTV contest winners and eight U.S. soldiers who have served in either Afghanistan or Iraq and were on leave in Frankfurt, Germany and Venice, Italy.
JONATHAN DAVIS (vocals), JAMES “MUNKY” SHAFFER (guitar), FIELDY (bass) and DAVID SILVERIA (drums) have redefined the parameters of heavy music, revolutionizing the genre by matching unsettling guitar textures and volcanic rhythms with jagged, introspective lyrics and intense vocal stylings.
KORN are known for their extensive live touring schedule and for creating and headlined the highly successful Family Values Tour in 1998, which continued for four successful treks. They’ve received widespread praise for their live performances. Here are recent critical live soundbites.
“…there was no compromise in their enraged exorcisms of betrayal, hypocrisy and abuse. Korn marked the evening's turn from warm-up time to major event, returning from a period of transition in which it changed record companies, lost guitarist Brian "Head" Welch (to the Lord, of all things) and collaborated with the pop-stained writing-production team the Matrix for its new album, ‘See You on the Other Side.’ None of that seemed to affect the Bakersfield-bred band's performance Saturday, as it took the stage to the most avid welcome of the evening. With its menacing biker look, outlaw charisma and us-against-the-world attitude, Korn is the Oakland Raiders of rock, a team that's in the league yet somehow apart from it. Korn didn't suffer any loss of depth or power playing as a four-piece, mounting a rich, loamy sound whose textures had no trace of harshness. It was like a massive, weighty cloud of anger and anguish."
“The punishing guitar of ‘Liar’ gives way to a catchy chorus, much like the band's 1998 hit ‘Got the Life,’ while ‘Coming Undone’ boasted an even bigger sound than it has on record. The straight-up metal attack of ‘Hypocrites’ was even more impressive than the album version, as Davis chanted, ‘Your messiah was never mine,’ and Munky made the guitars snarl. Korn surrounded its new songs with strings of hits, including strong versions of ‘Falling Away’ and ‘Freak on a Leash.’ The wildest songs, though, came from the band's eponymous debut (which celebrated its 10-year anniversary last month), especially ‘Shoots and Ladders,’ which ended with a righteous bit of Metallica's ‘One.’ The surprisingly addictive techno-pop of ‘Open Up,’ which seems like a likely hit from the new album, didn't make it onto the set list, though all three parts of Pink Floyd's ‘Another Brick in the Wall’ did, complete with Munky's masterful take on the famous guitar solo.”
